God, I hate the "he surprised people last year, but he won't this year" crowd.

After a few games, coaches knew the kid could freakin' play. They knew he could improvise. Not much of a "surprise". How about y'all just admit the kid can play football?

Furthermore, no, the Aggies are here to stay. In fact, I can see them being like a modern-day Florida. Up until their rise to prominence, Miami and Florida State ran the Sunshine State. Now, it's Gator country. The Longhorn crowd is foolish to think that this can't happen in Texas. Texas A&M has built-in geographic advantages (like Florida), they have first-rate facilities, and their fanbase is strong. They're not a flash in the pan.

He can play backyard ball...yes. That's what he did to win last year. Big difference. Give him a playbook he needs to stick to and he'll struggle. Just like his 2-3 interceptions in their Spring Game. There is also a big difference in preparing during the season for a player like him and preparing for him through the spring and summer. Don't forget that from the 2nd qtr on Bama shut him down. Aggies defense won that game. Give UF and LSU time to prepare they have the talent to take care of business.

A&M will not surpass UTX in TX anytime soon recruiting wise. Even OU can cherry pick better in TX than the aggies can. Heck Manziel wanted to play for the longhorns, and wasn't recruited. Still wishes he had otherwise wouldn't be throwing the Longhorn sign around. UTX is where the majority of top talent want to go, then OU, top out of state programs, then college station. Just is the way it is. The aggies will have to sustain top level for a long time so kids start dreaming about playing for them. Cause right now that's just not the case.

I live in Austin, and whether or not they'd like to admit it, Longhorn fans are a little worried.

The notion that a "number of teams" are ahead of A&M in the pecking order is debatable as well. I don't see OU and those other teams ahead of them in recruiting right now. The Aggies are on fire, and I don't know why people keep knocking them down.

Times change. Florida now reigns supreme in that state, and before their rise, they didn't. Oregon wasn't relevant until about 10 years ago, but now they're a powerhouse. They're a hot program right now, history be damned. They're all over ESPN. You're right about Texas being top dog in the state, but A&M's whole problem all along was being in their shadow. This is no longer the case. They were #6 in the country in revenue last year. The #1 QB recruit in America chose them. They're not to be taken lightly.

Coulda woulda shoulda...doesn't matter. No proof at all that he could have done any better. Nothing in his resume shows he could have taken over a program in the situation we were in at that time, and have succeeded.

I know so many are on his jock about why he didn't get the offer but no one knows if it was his decision to take his name off the list. The safe bet at the time was that UT at that time was a career killer for any coach who took it. And we were paying league minimums for the job too. He got what every coach that had their agent put their name out there on the hiring wire...a pay raise. Yall need to get off the guys jock it's pathetic...its like sitting around upset a girl in HS didn't go out with u. The guy has nothing to do with UT.

Is the kid a aTm commit or a Sumlin commit? Will he stay commited to aTm if/when Sumlin takes the USC job or will he move west?

That's a ridiculous assumption. He's a man with Southern roots in the best football state in the best conference in America. This is just asinine.

He will take an NFL job before a college job IMO. Especially if Chip Kelly has some success these next couple of years.

With all the hype surrounding Johnny off the field I never hear anything bout how he is preparing for the upcoming season. Has he even participated in summer workouts? Is he taking this upcoming season serious?

He spent a large portion of the spring working with George Whitfield, QB guru.
