That is a good point, and true.Things aren’t crumbling. Our program hasn’t peaked. Our program isn’t regressing.
The reality is that every time you add a win, things get exponentially harder to add the next win.
If you hypothetically start at 4-8, it’s not as hard to go from 4-8 to 6-6 as it is to go from 10-2 to 12-0.
There’s false expectation here if linear growth and then we panic and lose our minds when that doesn’t occur. “We’ve won 10 before! Why didn’t we win 11! Where is the linear growth I demand! Clearly we are stagnant! We are Penn State!”
When the reality is it takes a lot to go from 10 to 11 or 12 wins.
That is a good point, and true.
The concerns about peaking for me come from recruiting. We are recruiting decently but not in the top 10 nationally and #8 in the SEC, literally the middle of the pack.
This season, we have less than 50% blue chip players on the roster.
I think it would of been different at Neyland - y’all are absolutely insane, and we probably would of had no more than 5k fans there - we got lucky to play one more home game and for our seniors (who gave everything they had for 4 years), one last game at the shoe to go out on top, after the Michigan debacle…I don’t think anyone was beating tOSU the other night, given the circumstances.True
I still think we would've gotten waxed at Neyland but it would've been much closer
It certainly would've been different.I think it would of been different at Neyland - y’all are absolutely insane, and we probably would of had no more than 5k fans there - we got lucky to play one more home game and for our seniors (who gave everything they had for 4 years), one last game at the shoe to go out on top, after the Michigan debacle…I don’t think anyone was beating tOSU the other night, given the circumstances.
CJH made the necessary immediate impact to get on track quickly and stop the bleeding and start winning. By and large we are back to winning the games we should and some that are not expected. The 2nd part of the equation is a bit tougher. Not fond of the Kirby played for a NC in his 2nd year comparison. Richt was an excellent coach and left a full house for Kirby. CJH had the tougher road and a full rebuild of roster and culture. I want to see him and the team make the next jump, but I am in no way disappointed with where the Vols have progressed to.I don't disagree, but the point is we've struggled and haven't beaten any elite teams. Just pretty good teams. Which is not a bad place to be, but fans always want to see the program take that next step and we seem stuck at "pretty good"
