Are we the Penn State of the SEC?

Okay…still had to win “big” games and they are in the Final Four. Fan narratives are so funny.

Well maybe we are the Penn State. We are starting to pick things up and that could lead to us having a great year in the future like Penn State is this year.

I would take being Penn State over what we were from 2010-2020.

I think we would beat Penn State but I get what you're trying to say. If we can get consistently elite along the line of scrimmage, then we can take the next step.

Good program that will win 9-10 games a year but can't beat the elite programs in big games?
Remains to be seen. PSU isn't really ascending. We do not know yet if UT has plateaued. This was probably the most successful year since Heupel arrived... it wasn't necessarily the best roster.

We have been winning 9-10 games for the last couple years. We are establish ourselves before we can take the next step up. Let's give it some time before we give up on never being able to make it to the top. For 15 years I wanted to see a 10 win team.

All day, any day.

How quickly some folks forget.

I really think some of you are all are living in the past. Tennessee averages 5-6 wins since the 2000's. Tennessee has only be a 9-10 win team the last four seasons. This season had a terrible ending but I wish our team averaged 9-10 annually. We wouldn't have had some actually bad seasons.

These post kill me! C’mon all you Debby Downers this is Tennessee, ya we ain’t the best at this point in time but none of those programs can be compared to the Greatness of Tennessee!

PSU is in the final 4 now after those wins.
Yeah, and even Tenn would have a great shot of beating both of those teams. They got a great draw. It would be a failure if they didn't make it.
Oregon WON the big10 and was given OSU. Penn State was better off losing. No way they're beating OSU.

I would say they're not really. UT has ascended but we don't know if we've reached a plateau or if it will keep going.

Without the expanded playoff, neither is in. PSU got an extraordinarily weak path to the semi. UT got OSU. PSU got SMU and Boise. UT would be in the semis with that. IU probably would.

Franklin has reached a 2nd tier in the Big 10. They caught a scheduling break this year playing only one really decent team up until they get beat by Oregon in the Big 10 CG. As it turned out, UT did too. But again, Franklin has been there a lot longer than Heupel. He's 4-16 vs Michigan/OSU only beating OSU once since he took over in 2014. Heupel is 5-8 vs UF/Bama/UGA- including 0-4 against UGA who has pretty much been the "standard" for all of CFB over that period.

I think Penn State still in the playoffs. We are not. Just watching. Until we get an offensive line and more than five plays in our playbook, we going to be watching
PSU got SMU and Boise. UT got OSU. Not exactly apples to apples.

We are not close to them. We are not a serious sec contender.
If UT isn't... then neither is PSU. They have not been consistently competitive with OSU or Michigan at the top of the Big 10 and are already 0-1 vs Oregon.

Very similarly positioned in their respective conferences except Heupel is 4 years in while Franklin is at 10.

I look at things from a more historical, long-term perspective.
To me, we have always had a very interesting shared similarity with Michigan.
Both schools take a lot of pride in our football pedigree and long winning records.
Both have similar national championship histories and similar frustrations.
We have Alabama, they have Ohio State.
Both fan bases adore their football programs and their very rich traditions, sometimes to our respective faults.

By a lot of logic on here, we are in Indiana because of how OHST beat us. But that means Oregon is also Indiana.
