Are you 100% certain about Miltons abilities?

He has only this year to do it week in and week out. We shall see, but I'm pretty confident that he can. Like was said, Clemson was no cupcake.
I get what you’re saying, but Clemson wasn’t exactly a cupcake game.

I agree . Clemson was a real deal team, he played very well, but he also had a month to prepare for them. Halzle said he had never seen a guy so prepared for a game . That’s awesome, but I also want to see him be successful without a month to prepare. We can’t run from the fact that Joe has never been able to keep a starting job at Michigan or here. To me, I need to see him go down to Gainesville and play at a high level. And then I need to see him follow that up with a big time performance 2 weeks later in a massive revenge game.
Just because I have questions doesn’t mean I don’t think he’ll do it. I just need to see it consistently before I’m as sold as the OP.

The Orange Bowl is not meaningless. I share some of your concern though, I just don’t understand why everything outside of the playoffs is suddenly “meaningless

Why don't you ask this guy?

Not yet. Tennessee thrived on momentum and plays after plays, and Hooker completed 70% of his throws. Hooker really was amazing. Bam, bam, and run up to the line and catch a tired defense for 7. He knew where the plays were and never hesitated to make the throw at the right time. Can Milton do the same? I don't know. Milton will have to keep the offense moving at that same clip, and I'm just not sold on that yet; he's always needed more time, sometimes too much time. I know a lot of folks are moist over his ability to throw it 65 yards -- and want him to do that every pass play -- but I don't think that alone would lead to the same amount of success we saw in 2022. I mean, I hope I'm selling it short, the guy's tenacious and he seems like such a great attitude. I hope he's finally got it together. If 2023 ends with me standing in line at the Sugar Bowl, with my Vol friends jabbing me in the chest and saying "you didn't think he could do it," I'll cheerfully say "You're right, I'm terrible!" and scan my ticket for the game.

Clemson also had a month to prepare for him. They had enough film to know what he brought to the table vs what Hooker would have brought.
He goes into every game with that mindset, the sky’s the limit for him, IMO

That’s true. I just want to see it beyond one game. There are a couple things that bother me that I hope and think he will correct, but I agree that the sky is the limit . He’s probably the most physically gifted QB to ever step foot on campus.

Clemson was a great performance but not the only good tape he put up in 2022. I don't have any compliance about how he played in any of the garbage time games and the team handled Vandy like they should with him starting. I think he's shown growth and will be ready to lead us to a good season.

I think he was humbled losing the start to Hooker but rather than get upset, he buckled down and worked to improve himself. He roomed with Hooker so clearly they had more than enough opportunity to understand what made Hooker so good last year.

I’m very optimistic about Milton, I’ll never be 100% until I see real consistent work, but that’s on any QB to be honest,

He plays like he did against Clemson, then we’ll have a great season

I think that and having the courage to comeback after the Ole Miss debacle shows a lot of character. A lot of people would’ve mailed it in the rest of the way and hit the portal, but he stuck around and has become a team leader and potential star .

Exactly, that really shows he has the mindset of a leader. I noticed he was very big on encouraging and leading the team at the Orange and White game too.

Cautiously optimistic
I agree. Joe seems mentally and physically prepared, especially in practice or in a relaxed setting (Manning Passing Camp). We still don’t know what is going to happen when the lights come on in Nashville against Virginia. Hopefully the first deep ball will be on target. It could be that simple.

I’ve said this before… I think Joe is gonna miss a couple throws. He DOES NOT have the ability to make all 3 throws consistently I’m afraid.
He will be drafted number 2 lol

Pretty much agree with this. We've seen one game where he put it all together, and that was a meaningless bowl game. Will he be able to accurately hit a wide open WR streaking down the field in the swamp? That I am not so sure of.

A NY6 bowl against a top 10 ranked power 5 champion is not meaningless.

Pretty sure UT will destroy UVA. I am more interested in how Milton does in Gainesville. Yes, I know UF is supposed to be horrible and Sunbelt Billy is allegedly an idiot, etc. But, UF is not devoid of talent and the Swamp is definitely a hostile environment. If he keeps his cool and makes plays there, I am going to feel good about the season.

I have been very hard on Milton, partially due to his time at Michigan, and from his early days here. I have been viciously hard on him at times, probably sometimes unnecessarily and unfairly. He was literally the same waste of talent when he first got here, as he was at Michigan. All in all though, I think those thoughts were for the most part valid. But at the same time, I have always thought that if he could put it all together, he is an unstoppable force. I am coming around to feeling that he just might be putting it all together. Clemson is not nobody. He absolutely rocked Clemson. He is better than Anthony Richardson. He is far better than Will Levis. I told an in-law from Michigan that Heupel just might have fixed him. And I believe tonight that I’m right. He has the confidence that he has needed, and that’s a very big thing.

I'm totally sold especially year 3 under Heupels guidance
Only question is our o-line going to be able protect him.
You ?
I believe in his abilities but can he utilize his abilities to win. It’s not his abilities that I question. He most certainly has the talent to be a great QB.

That wasn’t a meaningless bowl game considering we’ve not even sniffed an orange bowl in 20+ years

Milton has the ability to be special, in terms of talent I think he already is. Dude can throw it through a car wash and it come out of the other side bone dry. We seen him in two games last year, Vandy and Clemson, Vandy was a give me but that Clemson defense was still pretty solid.

I think he can make some throws that Hendon couldn’t, I’ve had Addison Nicols on our podcast and he speaks very highly of JM. I know he’s not going to down his guy but I also know there’s a certain confidence you have going on the field with a guy you know will lead you to victory or try his best to. Addison spoke with that confidence of Joe.

Overthrows are going to happen, bad reads are going to happen but I think Milton has the potential for Tee Martin type of success this season. The run game is going to be good and if the defense is a little better than last year, the potential for Joe to take us to the playoffs is there. I’m all in all Heupel and this staff’s ability to develop talent. Win the games we should and handle our business against Georgia and/or Alabama and we make it to Atlanta and play for a playoff spot.

It’s going to be a fun season regardless

To play Devils Advocate here. He/coaches/team had an entire month to prepare for Clemson. Can he look as good against different schemes and players each week? Will his penchant for over throws come back if/when he gets rattled? He has proven, at least in the past, he is not all in for Tennessee (Ole Miss stepping out of bounds after time had already expired).

Dude has a legitimate arm, for sure but, one game doesn’t make up for a career spanning two schools of not being able to get it done. Maybe, just maybe CJH is the QB guru and whisperer we think he is and Joe wins the Heisman this year.

Post Script: how many of you could catch a 15 yard bullet from him crossing the middle? Even with gloves that has to be painful!
