I hate to bring in facts, but USC was in the same boat and has the #1 class at the moment with 5 less signees as us.

They used UT resources to build relationships with kids. This isn't a slam at him or anyone, but he spent a year building up relationships with UT recruits, and then was dropped into the USC class.

If you add the kids he kept at USC plus the ones he recruited at UT...............of course it will be a top 3 class. Thank God some of our recruits were EEs, or USC would have had an unreal class.

yes...and if you didn't see it, here's an edited snipit from a SI link that someone placed on a thread somewhere else here...

("What he accomplished is pretty darn extraordinary," said Rivals.com analyst Jamie Newberg. "They filled needs, got big time players, kept early enrollees there. It's one of the most impressive things this entire recruiting season."

Dooley not only retained all eight committed players already on campus when he arrived, he added a slew of players previously thought to be headed elsewhere -- five-star receiver Rogers and quarterback Nash Nance joined the fold, as did four-star receiver Justin Hunter, four-star DB Eddrick Loften and four-star guard James Stone, who spurned national champion Alabama. If Dooley can pull that off in less than three weeks, what might he accomplish over the next three years?")

considering the shape we were in 3 weeks ago when nobody even wanted to be head coach at TN I'd say we should be thankful...I love Dooley's attitude...I don't have the exact quote, but he said "recruiting day is great for fans"...but basically 'all that matters is what happens when it gets real starting tomorrow'...things could be much, much worse considering the position we were in 3 weeks ago

I am furious that we did not sign Bo Wallace. Just kidding. I'm very happy with this class

We got a kicker we're all excited about, an amazing WR class, pulled a quality HB out of nowhere, and now have a stable of quality QB's. The damage from Fulmer's last few dud recruiting classes and Kiffin's dismissals/players washing out will still be felt for the next couple of years, but we're off to a fantastic start.

Yep, happy!

I keep thinking of the soon to be great players that should of been in orange that went else where because of the the X fiasco.

Major needs are still major needs, too many SEC competitors ended with better classes.

Although Coach Dooley did a fantastic job saving and upgrading this class after the X factor screwing, I in good faith still can't say I'm happy. Go Vols!!

Re leaved things didn't get out of control is a better way to explain my feelings about all this. Also thanks to Coach LT and Cheney for hanging tough, this class could've spiraled greatly with out ya.

We did great. We needed to get a few more DT but no class is perfect. Think of what Dooley will do with a whole year to actually have relationships with recruits. That is what scares and excites me the most. :D

at least USC had a life raft....we were left stranded floating with just the air in our lungs at the last minute.

Dooley did a phenomenal job of hanging onto recruits and adding to those -- about as good as anyone could have done under the circumstances he faced. He rounded out an excellent offensive class across the board including an outstanding group of OLs & WRs and filled in the holes in the back seven on D very well, all things considered. The only key need area that really came up short was DT. The Willis and Copeland defections really hurt. Maybe CDD can still find and add one or two DTs. In some cases, Dooley had to bring in some JUCOs and some players with good upside potential (sleepers) -- but that was necessary in the situation he was in. Great recruiting classes take at least a year to put together. Dooley had a partial class in a fragile state, teetering on the brink of completely falling apart on him and three weeks until NSD. What he accomplished speaks volumes. Overall, this is a VERY good class!

No! It is pathetic that in 21 days all he could manage is a number 9 team on rivals and ESPN. I think we're in real trouble here. Twenty-one full days! And that's as high as he can get us? Total disgrace. And let's not forget, he has over half his staff in place. What's the guy need to be succesful? Like a whole staff and DC? A real Head Coach would have been able to pull in a number 1 class in 1 day all by himself. Some people just need the easy road don't they. I think we're in real trouble here, boys. The sky is gonna fall. We're doomed.

I agree but I'm not kidding!:worship: I may have to move to Arkansas by next August.:cray:
No need to move. Just start talking about some other player who will never play in the SEC this year. It is easy to find one player per year that has no chance to play at UT. There are plenty other Bo Wallace's in the sea.
