KNS reported on Sports Animal today "that his feelings are hurt" FWIW

Wow. Well, I guess all I can say is, "welcome to the big time." With the past winning ways and the new huge salary come bigger expectations from the fans. I am in full support of Bruce Pearl, but he deserves some criticism for how this season has gone.

No offense to Pearl, I like him and want him to stay, but if he leaves because UT fans have "hurt his feelings" or have been "too hard" on him, then he probably needs to find another line of work and he certainly doesn't need to EVER think about coaching at a place that has a strong basketball tradition, like Kentucky, Indiana, Duke, UNC, etc. If you think we're bad, then you really need to visit those places.

I mean seriously, IF as you say it's "our" fault as fans that he would leave, how long would he last at a place like Kentucky? We're nowhere NEAR as bad as they are; have you not noticed how they've treated Gillespie this year and how they treated Tubby Smith?

It's just laughable that UT fans would be the reason he left.

But I guess we shouldn't have expectations to beat these two teams, at home. I mean, they are both making excellent strides towards the tourney.

I could definitely see that being the case. I have been extremely upset with this teams performance consistently this year. I made it to 2 games and had opportunities to go for free several other times and turned them down. My feelings for the team are not a reflection on Pearl, though. I just didn't trust this team to play with the intensity that we grew to love in Pearl's first 3 years.

I think if he receives a contract to good to be true, he will look seriously at it and we will have nobody to blame but ourselves. If that is the case, my vote goes to hatvol. He has all the answers and could clearly do a better job than 90% of the coaches out there. At least, he talks like it.

If Bruce Pearl goes who is next? Pat Summit? Lady Vols stunk it up this year. Fire her. She's washed up. (More Sarcasm)

Seriously folks, chill some. Men's basketball is relavent again and THAT is because of Bruce Pearl. Stop being such spoiled babies. Teams lose sometimes but we haven't had a losing season and WE ARE STILL IN THE NCAA TOURNAMENT FOR THE 4th STRAIGHT YEAR!! Sheesh!!

I'm pretty sure he can handle the pressure, or else he wouldn't have lasted this long. It's how quick the fans seemed to turn on him that would have to be upsetting. Being rational about your displeasure isn't too much to ask.

I seriously doubt Pearl receives an offer more attractive than what he's getting at UT this year.

I'll admit that I have been critical of Bruce and his system somewhat this year, but I wouldn't have any other coach. I mean this was a "down year" and we still won the East. Don't give me this "the league is down this year" crap either. We have 5 wins against the RPI top 50, he fills up TBA which 95 percent of people thought was impossible, and he gives us national attention the majority of the year. Oh, and we lost 2 of maybe the best players to come through the program in the last 5 years in Lofton and Smith, lost Duke Crews and Ramar Smith, and are playing 5 new guys on a pretty consistent basis.

While a lot of people were mad last year after the loss, you have the remember that we lost to Rick freakin' Pitino, one of the best coaches in the game today, so back off him for that. Not to mention we came out really flat and played our worst game of the year it just came at a really bad time.

BP was the savior to UT basketball his first 3 years and now everyone wants him gone? Be a little more patient or no coach is ever going to want to come here with such bandwagon fans. Long live Bruce Pearl!

Alabama had a last second prayer answered. It happens. Big flippin deal. We still got the bye. We still won the east. We're still in the NCAA tourney. Only thing is we didn't win 20 games this year. We had a friggin hard schedule and we still won the SEC East. Some of you guys make me want to vomit. Seriously.

Yes, it is relevant again. But don't expect us to kiss ass for mediocrity. Should we kiss Phil's ass because we went to many bowl games? Thank you for taking us to the Peach Bowl, twice. "At least we got there", don't give me that crap, Cleveland State is going as well.

From what I read from some of the "fans" on this site I wouldn't doubt it a single bit.

That's my point...if you think UT fans are "quick to turn on him" and are being irrational, we're nothing compared to the bigger basketball schools. Like I said, look at Kentucky. Look at how UNC fans were before Williams showed up.

So my point remains.

I would have a hard time gathering that from your first post in this thread. That wasn't just "spreading the news".

I am in no way a fan of mediocrity. Tennessee played a hard schedule. Could we have won 22-26 games? Sure. We could schedule cupcakes like Florida did and be on the outside looking in. Should we have won some this year that we lost? Yes, but that doesn't mean we run the man out of town. He's been here 4 years dude and we've went to the NCAA 4 times. Nobody is perfect man.

BTW, I supported the coaching change in football but that is totally different than the basketball situation.

Now that's someone who should have all communication privileges taken away!

And thats why we at UT should act better than that. DO you want our fans to behave like UK fans? Its disgusting and frowned upon by most of the nation. Honestly their fans are why they suck. Kharma is for real. Making your coach and team feel like **** isnt going to make them play better. Psychology 101

No but again...that's not my point. My point is IF he left UT because of fans "turning" on him, then he ain't seen nothing yet if he goes to a school with a better basketball tradition that expects to win.

I am not saying run him out of town by any means. I realize our SOS was the toughest in the country, but we lost to pretty much all of them. Yes, we beat Marquette. But that Georgetown win doesn't really mean much anymore. Gonzaga twice, Kentucky twice, Auburn, Alabama, Temple, etc...
