Argue the merits of Bruce Pearl (merged)

You don't get to live in a 10,000-square-foot French mansion by coaching someplace where they don't bitch when the team is disappointing. If Pearl's feelings are really hurt, then he needs to either grow a pair or go back to Milwaukee.

"Yes, but can he win with his own players?" is an ancient complaint about college coaches in any sport. Until Pearl wins without Chris Lofton and JaJuan Smith, he's going to hear people grumbling.

I am not saying run him out of town by any means. I realize our SOS was the toughest in the country, but we lost to pretty much all of them. Yes, we beat Marquette. But that Georgetown win doesn't really mean much anymore. Gonzaga twice, Kentucky twice, Auburn, Alabama, Temple, etc...

Granted, but you know SEC play and you know Kentucky. Are they as good as they have been. Not at all but it is still Kentucky. Auburn is a much better team now than they have been.(1 point loss). LSU (6 points).

Temple is a suprising team. Kansas beat us. Gonzaga a couple of times, once in OT. Memphis by 2. We were in most of these games up until a late meltdown. Alabama game another example of a late collapse really by missing the last shot and silly mistakes BUT we were in all of these games. We need to learn to CLOSE better than we have but to hear fans say, PEARL SUCKS, blah, blah, blah, is absurd. He is a good coach and he is good for UT basketball.

Agreed, I've been defending him all year. I mean hell I get mad when we lose, but never once have I blamed CBP for it. It's not his fault our players are NBA one night and High School the next.

Then why was it Jerry Green's fault when the same damn thing was happening?

Why don't you ask Bruce Pearl whether he deserves some of the blame?

He RESIGNED and if we're not careful as fan's so will Bruce. I'm not saying spare the guy any criticism at all but to actually say he sucks as a coach or fire Bruce Pearl is stupid.

I don't care how Jerry Green left Knoxville. The fact remains that fans and the media, rightly, gave Jerry Green crap for the same problems we are having this year, but all the sudden it's the players and not the coach? That's idiotic.

Hell, we just went through the same thing with the football coach.

But yet this thread exists because reportedly Pearl's feelings are hurt just because he's been heard some criticism. There has NOT been any sort of a major "Pearl sucks, fire him" movement; if he wants to know what one of those looks like, he can ask Phil Fulmer.

He's had a good start to his UT career, but for all the hype, it's resulted in one regular-season conference championship and three disappointing exits in the NCAA tournament. He cannot seriously believe he's earned being beyond reproach already.

And thats why we at UT should act better than that. DO you want our fans to behave like UK fans? Its disgusting and frowned upon by most of the nation. Honestly their fans are why they suck. Kharma is for real. Making your coach and team feel like **** isnt going to make them play better. Psychology 101

Accepting mediocrity or performance below a reasonable standard also does not make the team/coach better. I don't think it's time to fire Bruce, far from it. But I don't want to be part of a fanbase that is always positive regardless of team performance.

LMFAO, let's get real....That was a totally different situation. We still won the SECE, that's more than our football team can say.

So you think UT Men's basketball is in the crapper huh? Regardless, it ultimately falls on the shoulders to coach his players but calling for his head right now is really premature.

For 2 million a year, you can hurt my "feelings" all you want... How about showing a little half court offensive and defensive coaching?

2 Sweet Sixteen appearances is hardly disappointing.

So it wasn't disappointing to blow that huge lead against Ohio State? You weren't disappointed last year to see us bow out in the Sweet 16 again after being a 2 seed, having briefly spent time at #1, etc.? Louisville was a tough draw, but we weren't even competitive.

We blew it to Ohio State twice that year and yes, both times sucked and were disappointing BUT to say the season and the appearances in the Sweet 16 were disappointments is something I can't do. I'm glad we got as far as we did and like any fan, wished we would have gone further, but we didn't. We have another shot this year. (which makes 4 straight if you're keeping score at home, oh, and for Pearl personally, it is 6 out of the last 7)

Remember, that was the first number one ranking for men's basketball in UT history. Not at all disappointing to me.

Please quote the post in which I stated that UT's basketball team was in the crapper.
