Same happened against Georgia. If we’re gone to stick with having a run heavy ball control offense it will only work if we have a legendary OL.We need bulldozers that can move people, have to win the battle up front. We’re not strong enough there, you can’t trick big strong fast D-lineman enough with in big boy football. We got whipped up front by Ohio State that says it all.
Look at both teams in the championship they are physical up front and can run the ball and they can make plays in the passing game too. It’s not about being run heavy. Teams are going to finesse and pass happy themselves to the Championship. The game always evolves, the top teams are fast and physical on D. You simply have to do both. Teams better have a strong running and passing game. But if you can’t run the pass will not matter. And your not going to put defenses on their heels with scat backs. 4-5 years ago lots of folks thought they could pass their way to championships with a strong running game. Good luck with all that. Football is still Football. GBOSame happened against Georgia. If we’re gone to stick with having a run heavy ball control offense it will only work if we have a legendary OL.
It’s certainly better to do both. But the most recent national champions have been power run teams who could run it on anyone with an efficient QB. Good receivers but not world beaters (as I say that, I’m thinking McConkey may be considered a “world beater”). I agree with all of this. Good receivers that can run routes and catch the ball is what you need in a power system. It doesn’t hurt to have a Wr or 2 that can take the top off. But the point was without the power you aren’t getting there which you explained there perfectly. It’s certainly better to do both. You have to be physical and have a running game for sure. In the SEC it helps to have both but without a very good running game your toast. I agree without a good physical running game and tough upfront D your not winning SEC or big 10. I don’t know if Notre Dame played in the SEC if they would have gone undefeated with just a running game but they still would have won most just because they are so tough and physical and do it well. Ohio St has a better passing game, but Notre Dame is very solid and doesn’t beat themselves. I think Notre Dame has the better coach but Ohio St has more talent. But most talent doesn’t always win.ND doesn’t really make plays in the passing game. They’re extremely limited there.
Riley Leonard’s high passing yard game was 229 vs Stanford. He was held under 200 yards passing 9x this season. Their leading receiver has 464 yards and 2 TDs.
You clearly don’t have to do both.
