I came across this.....

"Arkansas' year-long coaching search will conclude with Bret Bielema, who wants to stick around for the Rose Bowl.".

There's a lot of "buzz" down in AR. Several media sites running this.

Well since Hart is taking his time and we're going to be last to make a hire , i hope it's worth it.. No offense to Charlie Strong he seems like a solid guy.. Running him out there after waiting for what feels like forever would be a let down.. I'll get behind him, but it kind of screams dropped the ball from the AD's office...

Reports are now that Auburn will hire Malzahan. Yep Tennessee is now the sole SEC team with no coach. I hope we have a Bret Bielema hidden in our back pocket. Maybe Jon Gruden isn't a no?

yeah, 42 years old with 4 10+ win seasons in seven years and 3 straight trips to the rose bowl.

i'm not impressed.

However, he had a 6-10 record versus ranked in the last 5 years and a combined 2-8 record versus Mich State and Ohio State in that timeframe also.

He's had some impressive wins, no doubt, but the Big10 is pretty weak and he was preying on the weak while losing to the equal/strong.

Barely mentioned by the FanBase on VN.
Wow, and I thought we all knew everything.

We would be mad if we hired him and we're mad that we didn't hire him.

Thats a huge hire considering he has been on Wisconsin's staff for nearly 9 years.

He took over a declining Badgers team and has gone 68-24 in the last 7 seasons including 3 Rose Bowls.

Arkansas will be tough to handle with such a slow, power, physical football game they will be playing

i don't know how he will do at arkansas. some people succeed at one school and fail at another. so, you never know.

if you want to nitpick at bielema and his resume....fine.

however, wisconsin has been pretty consistent putting good football teams on the field capable of beating most anyone on a given day. they have won championships and have been relevant in the fight for the big 10 for most of his tenure.

and wisconsin is not a school that lends itself to attracting top talent.

so, don't kid yourself. he's done a good job. if you want proof, go to a wisconsin board and see how happy those people are about him leaving.

Ummm, yes, a homerun hire....

Championships
3 Big Ten Titles (2010–2012)
2 Big Ten Leaders Division Titles (2011-2012)

Awards
Big Ten Coach of the Year (2006)

Sorry, quit reading everything after Big Ten. :)

I'd rather go to 3 Rose Bowls and lose all 3 than miss out on a bowl game 2 of the last 3 years.

Of course you would and who wouldn't. We wasn't comparing Wisky's bowl games to UT's. 3 Rose Bowls and nothing to show for it yet. It's cool to beat cupcake schools 70-0 but win a couple of games that matter before you start talking "Homerun". And I think the guy is a pretty decent coach but he's not that big of a deal.

A homerun HIRE? Yes. Will he be successful in the SEC? TBD. Same way with Gruden even though most everybody on here thinks he'd be the Saban to our program. Yes they are big name, homerun coaches but you don't know how they will pan out till they get to the SEC.

How can you call someone a homerun hire and not think they can win in the SEC? Sound logic.

Well, in talking with quite a few of the B1G fans I work with (including some Wisconsin folks I know) most did not like him.

He was a guy that apparently owes a lot of his success to his assistants and gameday prep and cohesion has been a huge issue for Wisconsin this year with 3 OT losses and the other 2 being by 3 apiece.

I haven't watched any Wisconsin games, so I don't know. Just relaying the general vibe on the street concerning Bielema and most of it is "good riddance, we wanted Paul Chryst back anyway".

Unlike Strong, Fedora, Gundy where the sentiment is opposite. Again, just relaying anecdotes.

Bielema would have a lot more steam as a hire if he didn't have 5 losses on the year.

So what about Bob Stoops? Everyone thinks he's a homerun but how many BCS bowls has he been to and choked?

The amount of people on here who complain and ***** is unreal. From the thread of Daniel Lincoln becoming one of the elite with "well he couldn't kick so..." to this Arky hire being a miss. LOL, comical. We just dumped a coach who went 0-million and we're complaining about another team. At this stage of the game, we should appreciate ANYBODY wanting to wear the headset in Knoxville. People seriously need to drop the orange tinted glasses and wake up.

Arkie really is going big since 'sources' have reported the hogs have hired Mike Gundy, Chris Peterson, and now Bret Beliema, all within the last 24 hrs. Ought to be quite exciting on that sideline. But you're implying UT is not going for a homerun hire, which I have seen no evidence of to this point. Just because Hart is not as loose-lipped as some ADs doesn't mean he isn't aiming high.

ESPN just confirmed it!
