Arkansas' Williams to transfer

"My fear is that if Coach Malzahn leaves next year for a head coaching job,

If he's smart, he leaves for the first job he gets offered. That offense is toast as soon as McFadden leaves next year. Then everyone will remember that he's a high school coach with a gimmick offense.

I read on another site about a parent recently asking an SEC head coach to sign an affidavit that their kid was being recruited for a certain position and the kid would not be required to play another position without the kid's consent.

It's huge news here in Northwest Arkansas.
3 parents meet with the AD Frank Broyles, on the future of the program.
Mitch Mustain's Mom
Ben Cleveland's Dad
Damian Williams, Dad

All of these kids were highly recruited to other programs, ie, Florida and Notre Dame, and they changed their minds and went to Arkansas after Nutt hired Malzahn.

They thought they would run the same offense, they did in high school, and they didn't.

Really Mustain's should be the one most upset, he was 8-0 as a starter, and lost his starting job after an interception on the first series, in the South Carolina game.

There's probably more to follow....

can you imagine this happening with old school coaches like Bear Bryant or Bo Schembechler?

it's a huge deal in the state of Ark. I was hoping they would all transfer. One thing they need to understand is that as long as Mcfadden is there, they're not going to run that Springdale offense. Why would Nutt go shotgun 5 wide every down when he has the best rb in the nation? Just not going to happen. I bet the Pig msg boards are on fire right now.

The very notion that a few freshmen would think that what they want matters one iota, is astounding to me.
Shut up and run the play as called...

They were promised something just so Nutt could get them, and Nutt hasn't followed through.

I understand the kids' complaints, but it still seems awfully ridiculous.

I think these guys are cry babies. I know that when I was 19 or 20 hell even 18 the last thing I was going to do is have my parents speaking for me on a situation like this. If they thought or think with McFadden there that they were going to get more touches than he, then thay are nuts. Even a goober like Nutt can see that you need the ball in the hands of #5 as much as possible.

completing only 60 of 122 passes w/ 7 INT's in those 8 games compared to only 10 TD's is enough to merit losing a starting job. no way do you complain ever about having two 1,000 yd backs, one of whom was the runnerup to for the hypesman, w/ no hype going into the year

I can understand Mustain being a little upset after getting pulled and then watching Casey Dick stumble around, but the way they are going about this is absolutely preposterous.

I think a lot of the problem hinges on Arkansas hiring the high school coach, told them his offense would be used, just so they could sign those players...and it worked. I can't say I blame them in being disappointed for being misled.

I can't blame them either . . . but it's not like they went 4-8 this year.

When they are juniors and Arkansas is not running the offense that these babies want, then they can say they were misled. At the risk of belaboring the point, they are freshmen, just getting on the field occasionally should be an accomplishment.

I know I don't know the whole story, but this is insane to me...

It sounds to me like a group of kids who are having difficulty making the transition from being worshipped like Gods in high school to being at the bottom of the food chain in college.

Yeah, you know he promised them the world to go there instead of the other bigtime schools. The good news for them is McFadden is gone after next year. The bottom line, though, is that the coach has to put in the players and run the plays that give the TEAM the best chance to win. Obviously thats what they were doing last year. I didnt see the usc loss, but they were in the lsu and uf games. But the freshmen are more concerned about themselves then the team.

If I were Mustain, I'd really think hard about transferring. It seems like every year we see hotshot qbs out of high school never make it in college. You take a huge risk by sticking around and hoping you get playing time. And if you do, your stock is gonna be lower then it should...D.J. Shockley was a 7th round pick even though he was one of the most dynamic players in the sec, mainly because he had only one year of starting.

this is hilarious. ridiculous, yes...but still funny to an outsider looking in. Houston Nutt can't win can he?

jeez.

lol ok...

Sorry, got interrupted . . . :)

What I meant was that Shockley got drafted in the 7th round IMO mainly because he just wasn't all that accurate. Starting only one year may have impacted his draft position, but probably very, very slightly. He got significant snaps for 3 years prior to that.

I'd go as far as to say that if the Falcons didn't need a 3rd string QB and weren't looking for good PR, Shockley probably would have gone undrafted.

Williams is going to find out the grass in not greener on the other side. Aahhh, how youth is so wasted on the young.

Most amazing of all is that, at the end of a breakout season for this school, Nutt has to call a team meeting to straighten out discord caused by three...wait for it....freshmen!
I can't stop shaking my head at this...

This is why SEC football is the best. This situation and then the one at Alabama. Non-stop soap opera year round.
