Art Briles reportedly fired

Interim coach from the current staff for a season would probably be the smarter move.

So you are going to promote from within staff someone who met with victims and impeded the process? Every single ember of that staff must go. Now.

From the report:

Baylor failed to take appropriate action to respond to reports of sexual assault and dating violence reportedly committed by football players. The choices made by football staff and athletics leadership, in some instances, posed a risk to campus safety and the integrity of the University. In certain instances, including reports of a sexual assault by multiple football players, athletics and football personnel affirmatively chose not to report sexual violence and dating violence to an appropriate administrator outside of athletics. In those instances, football coaches or staff met directly with a complainant and/or a parent of a complainant and did not report the misconduct. As a result, no action was taken to support complainants, fairly and impartially evaluate the conduct under Title IX, address identified cultural concerns within the football program, or protect campus safety once aware of a potential pattern of sexual violence by multiple football players.

In addition, some football coaches and staff took improper steps in response to disclosures of sexual assault or dating violence that precluded the University from fulfilling its legal obligations. Football staff conducted their own untrained internal inquiries, outside of policy, which improperly discredited complainants and denied them the right to a fair, impartial and informed investigation, interim measures or processes promised under University policy. In some cases, internal steps gave the illusion of responsiveness to complainants but failed to provide a meaningful institutional response under Title IX. Further, because reports were not shared outside of athletics, the University missed critical opportunities to impose appropriate disciplinary action that would have removed offenders from campus and possibly precluded future acts of sexual violence against Baylor students. In some instances, the football program dismissed players for unspecified team violations and assisted them in transferring to other schools. As a result, some football coaches and staff abdicated responsibilities under Title IX and Clery; to student welfare; to the health and safety of complainants; and to Baylor’s institutional values

Briles won't be coaching anywhere any time soon. He is toxic.

Don't hold your breath on that.
There's always a program out there hoping to hire the kind of coach who can turn their program around, baggage notwithstanding.
(See Vandy or Nebraska, for example, in a year or two.)

Yes, the NCAA should take a stance in this matter where the coaches are concerned.

By doing so, the NCAA would be opening themselves up to another lawsuit, just like what happened with Penn State. It's not worth it, and it really won't help anything.

Fans of opposing teams think CBJ should be terrified now given Baylor's current situation. Also have seen mention of him putting a hit out on Bowles. Yea, they've gone full retard.

Agree. He will coach, but no one will let him be the head guy for a long time.....if ever.

Dave Bliss was covering up murders at Baylor and is a head coach... How he was never sentenced to prison is still a mystery. As long as AB didn't have a BBQ, he won't get a show cause

After all of this that has happened today, the blood lust to bring down Butch is gaining steam on Twitter. I'm considering the source, but there are a few national pundits bringing Butch up as well. They aren't the same, but perception can stronger be than reality.

Hey Im gonna be that guy. Baylor fired Art Briles. Is there anyone on the roster we had mutual interest with that may come this way or may goto a Rival. I rememeber Stidham but thats about it. Especially, with this class having just now arrived on campus, some may want out.

you can bet some will definitely leave and some will wait and see who comes in...either way...total freaking disaster for Baylor...:mega_shok:

GO VOLS!

That program will be back to conference doormat in short order. Wow

Very true, and their administration is too dumb to see it.

Sad day for Baylor fans, players, and for Briles. Sucks to get fired for something a few of his players did. When you have way too many lawyers looking for someone to sue, this is the result.

I wonder if Derek Dooley will put in for the job? The internet would never be the same.

I'll be "that guy" too.

This is all so despicable. The Baylor situation is terrible...any sexual assault is. The cover up shows such a lack of judgement (yes I have made plenty of bad decisions myself).

Art B will probably have another job at some point, because we are A) a forgiving society and B) most will compromise principles to try to win big.

This will show that Tennessee's situation is not "as bad" as Baylor's...but it will also lead some to want to dig deeper. Let's try not to make light of dozens of women being raped and assaulted...how it might help our recruiting or a new offense coordinator or any other immature take. (Which I have unfortunately done in the past).

Has any Tennessee player been convicted?

Has any accused player at Tennessee not been suspended from the team until the charges lead to a reasonable legal outcome?

As far as I am concerned, these so called national pundits can rot in hell.
