Art Briles reportedly fired

The most interesting part of this is that Baylor is being roasted by a report that they paid for. I'm worried the lesson being sent is to deny, deny, deny (a la UT).

Of course Baylor paid for an investigation. There was an internal problem and boosters/big wigs/everyone at Baylor (besides certain employees in the football program) wanted to know what the hell was really going on. It's not really that shocking once you consider all the civil cases that will likely stem from these incidents. Briles is going to get roasted in civil court.

You know somethings are just little more important than football games and coaches. This is college football. Students First, football is not even close!

Totally agree - but sometimes folks forget that the athletes are also students and as a student have the same rights as other students in terms of fairness when either the accuser or the accused.

There is also the tendency by some to want to punish them in public at the moment they are accused just because they are an athlete - and that is wrong too.

The summary that is publicly available doesn't include names. Being a private school, Baylor doesn't have to release the entire thing to the public.

However, it makes no bones about individuals within the football program circumventing the investigation process and having inappropriate dealings with accusers.

We will likely never see "the hard evidence" because Baylor isn't required to release it. So if you want to use that fact to stick your head in the sand, then feel free to delude yourself to your heart's content.

Actually, you are the deluded one.

If Briles actually did these things, he should be investigated, and tried for obstruction of justice. Last I heard there are laws with real penalties for what he is accused of. But if that evidence isn't strong, he is just another guy ruined by more innuendo.

You don't go for half measures if you want to effect real change. Baylor would recover from the short term publicity, and lead a real change on sexual assault.

But this being the way it is handled just lets this half assed unjust process continue. So let it fly dude. One day, you may be the guy caught up in accusation while the whole world cheers your fall.

Maybe. But I doubt it. Let's find out together, shall we?

No one is accusing him of obstructing justice. He is accused of circumventing or ignoring Title IX policy. There are penalties for that kind of behavior, but they are civil, not criminal. At the moment he is a party to more than one lawsuit brought by women who were assaulted by his players. So when you say...

Last I heard there are laws with real penalties for what he is accused of,

...it looks like he is facing those very real penalties as we speak.

You don't go for half measures if you want to effect real change. Baylor would recover from the short term publicity, and lead a real change on sexual assault.

Baylor has shown absolutely no interest in pursuing even half measures when it comes to dealing with sexual assault. At least, not until their myriad failings were made painfully public.

But this being the way it is handled just lets this half assed unjust process continue. So let it fly dude. One day, you may be the guy caught up in accusation while the whole world cheers your fall.

If I am ever in a situation like the one Art Briles helped create, then I will justly deserve everyone's scorn.

So you went with the stick your head in the sand option.

After all of this that has happened today, the blood lust to bring down Butch is gaining steam on Twitter. I'm considering the source, but there are a few national pundits bringing Butch up as well. They aren't the same, but perception can stronger be than reality.

It appears -- as proudly confirmed by Anida W adhwani of The Tennenessean newspaper Mar 30 '016 -- the Athletic Dept + HC at Tennessee took measures to handle things more appropriately:

"“Anytime we have a disciplinary issue with a player, we have as many conversations as needed with players, parents, law enforcement, whomever
until we can be sure that we are making the best decision possible,” (Coach) Jones said in his statement Wednesday.

“These are decisions that can be life changing for these individuals. After taking into account all the information we could gather in this case, we made the decision to suspend two student athletes from the team immediately.”"

"Jones suspended Johnson and Williams from the team on Nov. 17" (W adhwani confirmed).

So you went with the stick your head in the sand option.

No, I did not. I just went against the usual approach most call justice today.

I would rather see this criminal behavior punished rather than see the guilty go untried. He might not make the same mistake again, but it doesn't deter the next guy.

If only OJ had been paralyzed in a wreck on the way to Nicole's. Things might be a whole lot less......what it is now.

Great choice their defense was sooooo good lol

This is damage control at this point. It's almost June. This close to the season, they're likely just finding someone already familiar with the players, the program, and the style these players were playing/ brought in to play. In all likelihood, pretty much just looking for someone who can serve as a...maybe stopgap could be an appropriate term.

Take the loss of one season in the hopes of a better, long term hire next winter.

Dave Bliss was covering up murders at Baylor and is a head coach... How he was never sentenced to prison is still a mystery. As long as AB didn't have a BBQ, he won't get a show cause

Or well, lying to investigators twice was more the problem than actually having the BBQ.

Very true, and their administration is too dumb to see it.

Sad day for Baylor fans, players, and for Briles. Sucks to get fired for something a few of his players did. When you have way too many lawyers looking for someone to sue, this is the result.

I wonder if Derek Dooley will put in for the job? The internet would never be the same.

What?

Those saying briles will get paid are dumb... Every coach has some kind of morality/ethics clause in their contract. I'd say this is an egregious breach of that.
The Baylor job itself isn't going to attract anyone big until their house is in order. The Baylor ad is burning down faster than a branch Davidian compound.
Briles is Chernobyl level radioactive. NOBODY in their right mind will touch him for years

Briles son is still the OC right ? No way they give him the reins

No way another Power 5 conference team hires him anytime soon. Art has always been a Texan and reluctant to leave the state. I could see him moving on to the NFL.

I could see him ending up at UTEP, UNT, or another small Texas school in a few years
