Hey guys, I am a very hardcore Centrist. I took an online test to find out about my political beliefs. The last presidential election was the first time I got to legally vote and I voted for the McCain/Palin ticket but only mainly because my mama hates Barrack Obama so bad. Since then I have discovered I'm a Centrist but I haven't been able to keep up with debates and stuff as much this year as I'd like so I was wondering which person do you think I should be supporting based on my Centrist beliefs?

Dude your thread is stupid
Tell me what left ideas you like and what right ideas you like and I'll honestly tell you who you should support

Wow...I find myself asking the exact question that GS asked...what is a "hardcore centrist"?

Billy is a perfect demonstration of why universal suffrage and a popular vote as part of the formula for appointed the President are poor ideas.

Billy, how old are you? I'm guessing no older that 21.

And what the hell is a hardcore centrist?

Do you have any original thoughts or do you look to this site to formulate an opinion?

Just a few questions for you.

A centrist is another word for someone who doesn't like to take sides on anything. They have no balls.

So, one side is represented by utgibbs. The other is represented by gsvol.

And these are our choices?

Just because you don't fit into the right or left box doesn't mean you don't have conviction, lack courage to stand up for what you believe, or "have no balls."

Then explain to me what a centrist believes because I have no idea and I'm not trolling.

I don't think it is possible to be a free-market thinker and also think we should be highly socialist in regards to economic policy. Maybe if you are talking about issues like abortion and drug legalization that is different.

You're right, it's difficult to categorize. I just think centrists believe what they believe...It varies wildly which is why there is no "center" party. Our SMDP system doesn't allow for the rise of alternative parties that represent a wider array of beliefs. That doesn't mean that people that don't fit as Democrats or Republicans don't have a belief system.

I think he was kidding by the "hardcore centrist" comment. That's clearly an oxymoron.

As for asking who to support, I am becoming more of a centrist, I guess. I was a pretty right-wing guy earlier in life, but lately, I'm seeing that both sides are pretty crazy.
I voted for McCain, because he isn't very far to the right, and I felt like he would have been a better guy for the whole country, while Obama couldn't be farther to the left.
Romney is probably the guy that's closest to the middle...of the candidates with a shot at winning the nomination. He's probably your best bet, at this point. You should really just decide which issues you feel most passionately about, and which you are willing to compromise.

A centrist IMO would be someone who is against abortion and against the death penalty (or the other way around)

For the upteenth billion time, no one is FOR abortion. The far right really does the debate on this subject a huge disservice when it labels people as "pro-abortion."
