Ask Doozer about motorsports thread

I'm I wrong for not caring about top fuel or funny car drag racing?

No, but you'd be wrong to not go if you've never been. Some things are meant to be experienced in person only. Drag racing is one of those things.

That's what got me into nascar. Never was interested, until I got a job close to a racetrack. I heard them out practicing one time, and was addicted.

Just thinking aloud, I was wondering if maybe Penske might field a third car for a race or two if Newgarden was serious about nascar. They're both under the Chevy banner in Indycar and I'm sure Roger could pull it off with support to one of the smaller teams. Appears to be a pretty talented driver, although I'll admit I don't watch all the Indycar races.

With the Charter system and only 4 spots available to non-charter teams, I'd be surprised if he did. I wouldn't rule out an Xfinity start though, especially at non companion event.

BTW, forgot to add in my other post that I agree 100% on the Xfinity start. More top rides available plus I think any car owner would have to wonder just how serious he is about nascar.

Not sure Penske will be an option. I have a feeling that Josef is going to replace TK in the #10 for Ganassi next year.

If not for his horrific crash at Texas, and subsequent injuries, their was speculation that Go Fas Racing was a possible testing slot for Josef at Watkins Glen..There was actually some behind-the-scenes chatter back in June for him to suit up at Sonoma but the schedule was not going to work out for obvious reasons..But I do think if the opportunity presented itself Josef would definitely be up for it..Archie St. Hilaire could use the attention and sponsorship that JN would bring and I certainly believe it could only be a positive for Josef as well...

Doozer, you got any weekend plans?

Yes sir, going to Eldora this weekend. Finally checking it off the bucket list.

4 Crown Nationals aka sprint car mania.

Friday - World of Outlaws and Eldora Stock Cars (which I hope is more exciting than trucks)

Saturday - USAC Midgets, Sprints and Silver Crown plus All Star Sprints.

Well, how was it?

I'm glad you asked. It was pretty awesome. I had a great time.

I wish the WoO would have run more than a 30 lap feature, but it was pretty incredible to be standing right on the inside of the fence when they stomp the gas.

Saturday, of course, with 4 series running was busy, dusty and exciting. Keep a couple of guys in your thoughts (Tyler Esh and Rico Abreu) in your thoughts. They got banged up pretty well. Hopefully they're back soon.

Eldora is worth the trip no doubt. Be ready to get dirty if you've never been to a dirt short track. Beers are 2 bucks each, or 10 for six or 20 for 12 (including ice). A Crown and Coke was pretty stiff and set me back 4 dollars. Food was pretty good and also reasonable.

Don't waste your time with that truck nonsense. Open wheelers are the way to go. WoO lapping a 1/2 mile in 12 seconds? Unreal.

And camping? Free. Like to go in the the pits? That'll be 5 more bucks.

NASCAR should take notes of how other events are run at Eldora. They do, after all, get to go there as well.

Glad you had fun. I need to go out there.

That is wicked fast! 12 on a 1/2 is faster than the cup cars run at Bristol.

Well, to be honest, it's closer to 13 seconds. I think pole speed was just a tick above the track record, 12.707.

Works out to around 139 mph. Takes some moxie.

What’s your thoughts on today?

And now Danica Patrick. In the last few years, NASCAR has lost Jeff Gordon, Tony Stewart, Carl Edwards and will be losing her, Dale Jr and Matt Kenneth on Sunday.

As for Danica, you know, it’s interesting as my thoughts have changed over the years. The NASCAR thing was never going to work. She was never going to win. But if I ever have a daughter and take her to the race track (because you know I will), I hope there’s a female driver for her to look up to. And that female driver will be there be there because of Janet Guthrie, Sarah Fisher, The Force sisters. And Danica Patrick. That’s pretty cool.
