Now that's a great idea. Take an injury prone player and put him on the field goal block team as a leaper. Can't imagine that won't have a happy ending.

Well what would you rather have? Talented players on special teams with the risk of being injured doing so, or another average year of special teams that continue to put both the offense and that defense in terrible situations?

If Robert Meachem is going to make or break our special teams, we're screwed already.

It won't make or break our STs, but it helps to have tall guys that can sky on our kick blocking team. Maybe we should just have our kick blocking team stand there and give the kicker comfort.

hatvol...we r screwed because we have talented players on special teams? that doesnt make a lot of sense....the best players need to be on the field in the right situation...i think the coaches prolly kno what they r doin...

impressed wiht the vertical jump...

as to Meacham on ST....eh, probalby not the best idea in the world....he has been injury prone, he is in the starting WR rotation, and you'd hate to lose a guy becuase he got hurt on ST. Losing him while playing reciever while still equally as bad, at least he'd be doing it contributing to what he supposedly does best.

but there is something to the idea of having your best people on the football feild.....i remember hearing the same discussions here in Charlotte last year about Steve Smith...people were up in arms that he was returning punts.....but hell, he scored several touchdowns doing so....so why wouldn't you play him? most times he was the best player on the field in those situations and it paid off....

who knows...

What are we supposed to do run the football team like a union shop. This guy can only do this job and that guy can only do that job. I say go for it, put your guys out there and let them play. It's a physical game, people are going to get hurt, can't let that stop you from using players on special teams.

Simple math:

1 blocked field goal = multiple receptions.

College football is so momentum driven that big plays on special teams often dictate the outcome of the game.

1 high ankle sprain for your best receiver=Immeasurable stupidity.

only if it occurs....if meacham were to have some big plays on ST and remained injury free, it's looked at as a great personnel move....if he gets hurt while on ST and misses PT, then he's an idiot for putting stars on ST....

double edged sword....

Yep, we better just leave him on the bench to make sure he doesn't get hurt.

Better idea, let's just play him on defense as well. No reason to try to reduce the chances of his injury woes recurring. In fact, he should be forced to join the Pride of the Southland and perform at halftime. We also need to see if the rowing crew needs another member.

I agree Hat with the you if your point is somehow saying why take a chance with our best receiver (Meacham)on the team by far.Swain, for instance, to me seems he is scared to take a lick in traffic sometimes.Drops passes, etc.

I've always thought of Swain as one of our tougher WRs. He is our best possession WR.

probably true, but by UT's standards this is the most disappointing class of WR's I can remember. All hype, no substance.

Put #68 out as a receiver....he obviously has good ball handling skills.....

Not sure if that deserves an edit or not.... :biggrin2:

He won't be in long enough to get hurt jumping and down. He'll blow his hammy by game 2 or 3.

Ahhhh. . . .you can just feel the optimism. Why even post something like that?

I mean, we've got a kid who did great things on the basketball court, seems to be a real TEAM player, and is now trying to get one more year of athletics in for the school he loves. . . .do we really need to wish or predict injury? He's got ridiculous vertical, at least decent hands, and (from what I hear) he's been working his tail off. Heck, I think ALL of our receivers could learn a little something from that kind of attitude.
