Ahhhh. . . .you can just feel the optimism. Why even post something like that?

I mean, we've got a kid who did great things on the basketball court, seems to be a real TEAM player, and is now trying to get one more year of athletics in for the school he loves. . . .do we really need to wish or predict injury? He's got ridiculous vertical, at least decent hands, and (from what I hear) he's been working his tail off. Heck, I think ALL of our receivers could learn a little something from that kind of attitude.
I'm pretty sure the poster was commenting on Meachem's propensity toward injury.

Gotcha. Sorry, hasty post between patients.

Now we're getting to the bottom of why we have to wait so long at the doctor's office. :D

1 high ankle sprain for your best receiver=Immeasurable stupidity.
I would disagree. I believe in playing your best players in as many places as is possible. If they get injured, they get injured. It is definitely a risk one takes. However, nobody was questioning Mark Richt for placing Champ and Boss Bailey on the FG Block teams. Nobody questions Frank Beamer for putting his studs on special teams. The goal of the coaching staff is to win games, not to do everything they can to keep their best players from getting injured.

Champ and Boss Bailey had lengthy injury histories? Also, I never remember seeing Michael Vick returning punts in '99.

Didn't Andre Davis (All-American WR) return punts and kicks for VT? Wasn't he also very injury prone early in his career?

is that a field goal block attempt? if so, why is meachem (#3) in there?

Because he's very experienced at getting his hands on the ball and batting it down.

On a more serious note, I highly doubt that this is our FG block team "said and done." I'm pretty sure that the coaches take many looks at different possibilites.

If it looks like this on Friday, Sept. 1, then Meachem will probably be playing ST in the Cal game. Hell, I'd rather jump up and down to block a kick than return a punt.

Returning kicks puts the ball in a playmaker's hands. Something good has a reasonable chance of happening. The risk/reward payoff for having someone on the field goal block team is almost nonexistant.

About as nonexistant as getting hurt trying to block FG's. Remember, these players can only jump up now, they can't take a leap over the line anymore.

Even the best return men, might average 25 yards a return. They might score 2 TDs a year. A dominating FG block unit might block 1 or 2 kicks a year, and cause 2 or 3 kicks to be missed. I would say that each unit has about the same chance of making something good happen.

Also, I cannot recall a single instance of a defender being injured while trying to block a FG. However, I can most certainly think of many injuries on punt returns and kickoff returns.
