Ath Dept Not Doing Their Job -- Tiny

What of he didn't rehab like he was instructed? What if he ignored medical advice? What if he played while hurt before coaches knew he was hurt? Clearly not saying he did these, but there could be things we don't know.

Let's not get crazy with the 1st or 2nd round assurances for Bray and Tiny. They both had great physical tools but both lacked mental focus. That is huge in the NFL. Bray didn't have the work ethic to be a 1st or 2nd rounder, nor the wins to show he could still lead his team without all the preparation it takes. I don't think that would have changed if he came back and had to learn a whole new system. In Tiny's case it's hard to say a guy that went undrafted would have been a 1st or 2nd round pick if he had just played one more season. He would have had to show an awful lot to make that jump. Not saying its impossible, just unlikely.

And it was obvious they just didn't want to be at UT anymore. Some guys just get sick of playing college ball and following all the rules and having every aspect of their lives critiqued and scrutinized in the process.

And you don't think they don't have rules or get scrutinized in the NFL? They leave early because they think they'll get drafted and make money.

Sounds like the OP is a bottom-feeding personal injury attorney.

Lol. Not hardly.
Though I'm against this movement towards paying players, I do believe it should be the responsibility of the Universities to cover any injuries suffered while playing for them.

If he truly does need micro fracture surgery, UT should be required to pay for it and his rehab. Hopefully, he'll make a roster and they'll take care of it, but if not, it should be UT's responsibility to get his knne right.

What part of UT Athletics Department low on coin don't you understand?

We're not in a position to do charity work for the Minnesota Vikings!

How about "no"?

That would be like leaving a job, and expecting the old employer to still give you benefits. Doesn't work that way. Once he declared, UT was released from any liability to him.

No way. If he needed surgery, he should have had it before declaring. I like Tiny, but once you leave and sign a contract, it should be on the new team.

If he had stayed at UT, I agree, but he chose to leave. I don't get people like you who like to spend other people's money. If you feel so strongly about it, go raise some funds to pay for it yourself. I don't want my ticket prices or student activity fees raised to pay for someone who could have stayed and got free treatment, but who doesn't want to be here.

If Tiny should be pissed at anyone it's his agent or whomever was advising him. I like the kid and he's great---actually met his mom too she's a great lady but it's called "professional" football for a reason. He's still going to get his shot and one might argue that getting signed as an undrafted free agent is actually a better situation. I hope he does well and makes it on an NFL roster.

If a player suffers an injury while playing at UT and requires surgery, does UT not pay for it? Honest question.

Well I would guess it is the ath dept fault that tiny let Clowney own him. I guess it is their fault that tiny never lived up to expectations and should have worked to be ready for the combine like he was a 1st or 2nd round pick and not just show up expecting them to bow to his presence. He was not a very good OT and it was obvious.

Really? Many folks agree that Tiny got the better of Clowney in 2012 until that very last play. In 2013, Clowney got 0 sacks in a losing effort with Tiny the winner this time. The #1 draft pick's one sack in two yrs vs Tiny just doesn't impress me all that much. :shades:

Wre you at the game in 2013? Tiny had no chance--Clowney was gone by the time Tiny wasput of his stance. Not a knock on Tiny but to compare Tiny to Clowney is crazy.

Clowney got 0 sacks in a losing effort. Not impressive to me. Clearly Clowney was deemed #1 draft pick and injured Tiny was not. But zero sacks in a losing effort is not "owning." If it is, then I hope exact same result happens again this year.

And I don't get people like you who feel that they are the only ones that should have an opinion. I pay taxes that go in part to fund the university. I buy merchandise that helps to fund the AD. I pay for season tickets every years which also fund the AD. I have at least as much right to have an opinion my money is spent as you do. You don't have to agree with it, but to challenge my right to have one is idiotic.

The University's job is to prepare students for their professional careers. That includes aspiring professional athletes. They are in entertainment no less so than, say, drama and music majors.

It appears Tiny won't be drafted because, principally, he was not ready for the combine and other pre-draft workouts.

For all potential draftees, the The Ath Dept should organize simulated events whereby the kids can assess whether they'll stack up and in which areas they are lacking.

For underclassmen, the likely results of the combine and pre-draft events should be known before the kid pulls the trigger and declares for the draft. We're talking about millions of dollars here.

Both Bray and Tiny already had enough exposure to be almost assured of a 1st or 2nd round selection if they stay for the Sr. years. That's a ton of guaranteed money.

It's malpractice to allow these kids to shoot themselves in the foot.

Get a clue. Not everyone who plays for UT will excel at the next level. And as far as talking them out of entering the draft? Good luck. Kids that age think they know everything. Now he'll try out as a free agent. Good luck to him but he'd better be at his best if he wants to earn a living in football. This aint mollycoddle college anymore.
