A banner with a Christian prayer on it at a public school has been taken down because a girl who is an atheist complained that it violated the constitution.

Since then, this girl has gotten death and rape threats from her "Christian" peers.

Such hypocrisy by these Christian fundamentalists. They don't really believe in anything Jesus said.

They sound a lot like Al Qaeda right here.

"What? You don't agree with my religion? Then I'll kill you, and you'll get raped in Hell! Muwahaha!"

If these threats were made by someone named Muhammad, no one would hesitate to call it terrorism. I am calling it terrorism.

Hard to look the other way on this. I saw the banner and it could have been reworded just a bit to eliminate this. The backlash towards her is disgusting, to say the least.

It's kind of hard to stay away from a huge banner that's displayed in your public school. And besides, it is unconstitutional for a school to endorse a certain type of prayer.

It's the cowards sending death threats who need to "stay away from it." If they truly love their country and support the Constitution, they would understand why the banner was taken down. But of course they don't.

It is not unconstitutional for the students to exercise their religious freedom, but what the Christian students need to recognize is the fact they have the right means that every student (Atheists, Agnostics, Muslims, Jews, Hindi, Buddhists etc) has the right to express their beliefs as well. So, by being intolerant, they risk having the right removed from everyone just in the interest of public safety. Someone forgot to teach them(ahem, parents...) that freedoms are not just for the majority...

I saw the Twitter responses the day the news broke on this. I was thoroughly disturbed and it is terrorism, by strict definition: the use of violence and threats to intimidate or coerce, especially for political purposes.

These Christian fundamentalists are disgusting.

The girl, Jessica Ahlquist, will be speaking at Reason Rally along with Richard Dawkins, Adam Savage (Mythbusters), Tim Minchin, and Bad Religion.

These people represent Christianity as much as Jerry Sandusky represents college football.

So, they're ambassadors to the game/religion that should be held at a high level and held accountable when their actions/words do harm? If so, then I agree.

Also, last I heard, authorities were investigating a lot of these threats.

direct me in the Constitution where it says "separation between church and state." has to be those words....don't quote me the 1st amendment and don't quote me article 6....

I don't see ahuge issue about whining about the banner, anymore than I would see an issue with a Muslim making the same grievance.

Nevertheless, there is a little bit of showcasing and stupidity by both sides here. I'm just to the point where I say eff it...if Muslims want to pray 5 times a day at school, Christians want to formally gather and say prayer, atheists just want to complain about something...then whatever. As long as I am not required to participate in any of it, what do I care.

If the school was endorsing a particular flavor of religion, then absolutely, it was unconstitutional.

I get your point though...there should be no issue with the school letting differing religious groups of students do what they feel necessary as long as it isn't disruptive.
