athiests and agnostics know more about religion than churchgoers

Some people have estimated 60-70 million Christians in China, which would put them close to the U.S. in terms of shear numbers.

My church directly supports two missionary families in China. According to them that number is WAY too large.

The article thought it might be too small, because some Chinese are afraid to admit it. I do know that the Chinese government is concerned about the # of Catholics so it's pushing Budhism(Which they consider the less of two evils).

I've heard estimates anywhere from 50-200 million. No one is really for sure.

Christianity is also spreading is Africa as well. Not like wildfire, but it is spreading.

Those figures would include Hong Kong. Most don't really consider Hong Kong because Christianity has been there for some time.

Religion is on its way out anyway. Europe is largely atheist/agnostic now. Buddhism and Hinduism are more of a belief system than a religion. Islam has over a billion adherents but you can't find two that believe equally. With practicing Christians dwindling daily, Muslims will probably wipe out each other eventually.

Living in the South is the only place where church is still an intricate part of most in the community. Southern Baptists still use the bible in worship and read it at home, from my observation, but I can't find one that can readily prove their primary beliefs directly from the bible. The rest of protestants have turned more into social clubs than religions.

That's just my personal observations as a whole, I'm sure there are some exceptions.

This is disturbingly sad

the truth is that people who do not believe in Christ....do not accept the believers reasons for their belief....thus, deeming them wrong in thier own mind

Our missionaries do not provide a "preacher" count. They are not trying to justify our support with made up numbers.

The numbers I have seen have come from the IMB and Voice of the Martyrs among others. I truthfully don't know. However, the leadership at my church has provided a lot of the numbers and I have no reason to think they are lying for support.

and those who do believe in christ don't do exactly the same thing to the non believers?

there's a difference between lying and taking liberties such as counting anyone who attended a service as a convert.

not in the same way or to the same degree, but yes, some do.....my point is that they discount faith because they say it can not be "proven"

I truthfully have no idea. That's why I gave such a wide range.

The underlying point still stands - we (Christians) can spout off all we want about China, the truth is that we really don't have any idea.

and you feel this is unfair or unresonable?

never said that, just pointing out differences in thought process.....faith is just that.....science that can be proven?....well that is a WHOLE nuther topic
