athiests and agnostics know more about religion than churchgoers

what could a human have added to or taken away from.... "believe and you shall be saved"

the entire thing? one requires members to their flock. the other eliminates the need for clergy. jesus himself wasn't exactly a huge fan of organized religion.

i for one cannot believe that if the christian god exists that he would damn an otherwise good person to hell for eternity simply because they weren't sure he existed.

If the Christian God exists, who are you to tell him what is good or not? If the Bible is God's word, then He's told us that none of us are good in His eyes on our own accord, specifically Romans chapters 1 and 2.

i'm failing to see your point? there's ample evidence the bible was writen decades after jesus death. this really isn't in doubt. surely it's POSSIBLE that everything in it isn't the word of god.

Actually he never condemned the organization itself and on the opposite was quite the devout Jew and did what was required. He actually prayed specifically for the church.

What he wasn't a fan of was the man-made rules and traditions put in place by the religous leaders of the time that wasn't from God.

precisely. which is why it sounds pretty ridiculous to argue those same problems may not exist today.

The point is valid, Jesus himself lost his temper when he saw money changers and priests pimping out God for money. IMO this example applies perfectly to one of the aspects about the Christian faith today, mega churches who pimp out merchandise and their pastors who live in plush neighborhoods.

At the very least it appears Jesus was displeased with many aspects of religion as it existed in his time and many of those very things are becoming prevalent once again, at least IMO. It is one of the very reasons I choose not to be part of any organized religion or put a label on my beliefs other than to say I am a believer.

I "could" be completely wrong and I "could" be a fool for what I believe....we WILL know for sure one day

Then for your sake I hope you're right about Him.

You will NEVER hear me say they don't exist. I grew up in a country Southern Baptist church, you don't think I understand how much culture and legalism has infected the church? I am fully aware of it.

I am thankful to be in a church now where primarily those things aren't prevalent. The leaders truly try to lead by the Bible alone. They are not perfect, but they try to rely solely on what the Bible says.

But to say Jesus wasn't a fan of organized religion, aka the church, is just false.

That sounds like Pascal's theory.

Either way, following Biblical principles is a pretty good way to live life.

there are no "problems" that exist with God's Word.....just man's set of rules to "belong" to a particular demonimation....that is not salvation
