My Top Five Coaches in the SEC:
1. Spurrier - Easily the best coach in the SEC, he transformed the league in the 90's into what we see today, an NFL developmental league. He was light years ahead of everyone else in the 90's with his fun and gun offense, calls his own plays, keeps it simple for the players, and when you think that you have him figured him out he will trick the hell out of you and your team. He won six straight SEC titles, and a National Championship while at UF, a program that had never won either until he did it in the 90's. Now at USC he has transformed a losing program that considered finishing ahead of Kentucky and Vandy, and making a bowl game a successful season. He took USC to their first ever SECC game. USC now expects to compete for the East each season, and is a force in recruiting in the SEC. Plus, he is brutally honest with everyone including the media, a very straight shooter.
2. Saban - Everyone knows his resume, and if you don't just ask him, he will tell you. He has the rings and all of the hardware, but he has only won at places where its very easy to win at, if Saban went to a place like Kentucky, and could make them a winner like Spurrier has done at USC then he would be at the top on this list. Saban is a great coach, but he has a reputation as a snake with his players and assistants. If you don't believe me just look back to his departures from LSU and the Dolphins.
3. Miles - say what you want but he has won and is a winner, everywhere he has been. He has had blunders along the way, but he and his teams always expect to win and do. He may not be able to out scheme the top two on this list, but he has the ability to win against anyone, anytime, or anywhere. He just gets it done.
4. Richt - remember Fulmer wins a lot of games each season, but can't win the big one to turn the corner, except Fulmer did win a big one against a FSU team with a rooster at QB. Richt is a lot like Fulmer, but he hasn't had a perfect season where all the pieces of the puzzle fall into to place. Richt took a struggling program at UGA and immediately turned them into a winner, UGA would be crazy to get rid of him unless Saban or Spurrier become available.
5. Petrino (opps, he imploded).
5.1 Mullen - He can flat coach, the brains behind the Urban Meyer Offenses at Utah and UF, if he were at Tennessee or Florida, he would have the wins to prove it, but he's not, he's at MSU. If he continues to build this program, and can win an SEC title, he could pass others on this list as winning at MSU is like winning at Kentucky or Vandy.
