Atlanta Braves II

Sitting Heyward....smh.

Batting him 7th was dumb too when he might be our only hitter that could fit the 3 spot role.

The Braves are in an interesting spot, organizationally. They've put all their eggs into this Heyward-and-Freeman-is-the-future basket. They're pretty well screwed if Heyward flames out. And yet now they've hired a manager that clearly doesn't think Heyward's any good, and who regards him as just another guy on the bench along with spare parts Jose Constanza, Matt Diaz, and Juan Francisco.

Wren's going to have to figure this out sooner rather than later. Heyward still has tremendous trade value. It would be insane to let Fredi destroy that asset just because he doesn't like the kid.

Heyward's a fan favorite too. Or at least I'm a fan.

I'm not a die hard follower, but to me, if you have a contact issue, which this team clearly has...I will never understand bringing in the White Sox hitting coach. That, plus lineup management, plus the collapse, it seems to me that an organizational overhaul could happen at season's end.

*insert obligatory, "it's only been one series."*

I never in a thousand years would have thought that this Francisco experiment would have given Fredi another excuse for sitting Heyward, yet here we are. Francisco's in, the reanimated corpse of Matt Diaz is in, Heyward's on the bench.

I don't know what the hell Fredi has against Heyward, but I'm pretty sure Jason is in a cagematch situation with his manager. Only one of them is going to survive in Atlanta.
Not sure how you reconcile sitting him against AJ Happ after playing him opening day against Johann friggin Santana?!

The first paragraph are my thoughts exactly. I'm ok with playing Francisco. If your offense sucks, load up the HR hitters and pray. Kinna like live by the 3, die by the 3. What purpose does Diaz serve? He's a free swinger with no pop. And how on earth does it lead to Heyward sitting? Honestly I'm shocked Constanza isn't in there somewhere. Fredi literally leave me speechless. To the second paragraph, my money is on Heyward outlasting Fredi. If Heyward doesn't have a good season, the braves won't have a good season. If the braves don't have a good season, Fredi is out.

Fredi likes free swingers. He likes guys who put the ball in play; he likes to hit and run; he likes to bunt. He likes to make moves and be aggressive and play one-run ball from the first inning on.

Which is probably why he has such disdain for Heyward, who's got good speed but whose whole approach at the plate is based around patience. Fredi wants to manage like he's Whitey Herzog in Busch Stadium in 1985, and sluggers who walk 100 times a year do nothing but plug that up.

Happ is not exactly fooling them in the second inning. Both Uggla and Freeman hit ropes. Uggla about killed Gonzalez at short with him using his body to knock down that laser.

I know he is not in the line up but Heyward/ freeman needs to be hitting 3rd and Mac 4th. Uggla is a perfect 5 but not a clean up and Mac is.

I will give my next three paychecks to have Fredi Gonzalez fired.

Braves spend more money than some of you think.. Payroll is estimated around 90 million which isn't too shabby. Wren hasn't always spend it wisely. Lowe, McOut, Linebrink, etc.
