Kimbrell throwing serious gas tonight. First time I've really seen him have his fastball this year.

I forgot who said, but they said that Kimbrel actually throws an 86 MPH curveball if you look at the break and angle of it.

He definitely threw one that looked like it had more "down" than the others.

EDIT: the final pitch looked the same. It's almost like he was throwing 3 pitches tonight.

Despite the talent of Gattis and Bethancourt, they both have some major flaws in their games.

Both of them will be just fine, they have all of this season and all of next season to iron out their flaws and growing pains. Expect Gattis to go to the OF. Frediot is bonkers about this kid. Bethancourt will be a stud.

Speaking of Venters, I wonder if the Yanks will make a hard push for him in a few years. You cannot really replace Rivera but Venters has had to of caught their eye. Rivera with that HOF cutter will have to hang it up one year.

wouldnt the yanks go after a proven closer? maybe its just the fact that i dont want him going anywhere anytime soon lol, but i dont see them replacing a hof with a 8th inning setup man

Rivera himself used to be the setup man for John Wetteland. And it was as obvious that he could handle the closing job then as it is that Venters could handle it now.

The Braves control Venters through 2015 and Kimbrel through 2016, and it would take a hell of a trade offer to pry either of them away. No need to worry about anything yet.

(Insert cheap Fredi joke about how unlikely it is that either of them will still be able to lift his pitching arm in 2015 here.)

As cheap as the Braves ownership is all that Yankees would have to do is simply just reach into their pockets and pull out some change and you know the Braves would bite.

Y'all can flame me for this, but Chipper's contract should be prorated. He is making way too much money to be out of the line up every other day. Dude needs a games rest after every nine innings he plays, after every flight, and after every time a night game is followed by a day game. Frustrating.

I agree with you, but I don't trust Liberty Media to put the money they would save anywhere but their own pockets.

Why should it prorated? It's not like he held a gun to their head and made them offer an extension. At least Fredi is hitting him 5/6 instead of disrupting the lineup with a part time 3 hitter.

Why? Maybe because we could have shifted some of that enormous salary for someone who could actually play more than 2 games a week. I love Chipper, but maybe he should take some of the advice that he gave to Heyward last year.

He's played 6 of the last 7 days and gets a scheduled day off today. There have been times in the past when I think your criticism is valid, but we're talking about a 40 year old who is a month removed from a meniscus tear. I'd say if he manages to play 120 games at his current production level, the Braves will be ecstatic.

I get what you are saying, I would ecstatic with 120 too. But 90 to 100 is more realistic, not really bang for the buck.. But he does make the team better. Just wish we didn't require so much maintenance.

For all my nitpicking, I just want to say it's really nice having a legit leadoff man and a hitter like Prado behind him. Good job Wren.

I love Bourn, seems like a great clubhouse guy and one helluva lead off man, really hope we can resign him. But with his agent I have my doubts
