Well, yes. It's definitely useful now. I'm just wondering why they didn't try him anywhere else four years ago in the minors. Long term, it's a waste.
I'm sure a lot of it is his height. He looks like the prototypical 1B. Can you really think of very many 6'6" guys that play third?

No, but I can't think of anybody I've ever seen his size who's as slick with a glove. You'd think that it would have been worth a legitimate shot in A ball. Probably just a typical lack of imagination by the Braves.

FF was drafted in 2007 (played 59 games), and played his first full minor league season in 2008. At the time of drafting/signing FF, the Braves were yet to acquire Mark Teixeira. At that point, Atlanta was relying on Julio Franco and Scott Thorman to provide offense at 1B. With the Teixeira acquisition, the FO had an immediate postseason run in mind, with little hope of signing Tex to an extension.

At that point (and especially after the atrocity that was the Tex to Angels trade in 2008), the Braves had no viable long-term option at 1B.

There was never reason to experiment with FF at 3B as a young minor leaguer, and it is probably too late to try now. If anything, FF to LF, Prado (or Terdo) to 3B, and Mac to 1B.

Chad Tracy is playing third right now for the Nats in the tenth inning of a tie game. So, anything's possible.

How about we just make it easy and do the intelligent thing . . . Leave FF at 1B; not overpay for the privilidge of watching the back end of a Catcher's career and say thanks as he signs with an AL team where he can split time between Catcher and DH?

If they can let Javy Lopez walk after a 40+ HR season, they surely can let Mac sign elsewhere.

Especially with my man Bethancourt waiting in the wings and Evan Gattis behind him. We are rich in catching, BIG TIME

Despite the talent of Gattis and Bethancourt, they both have some major flaws in their games.

Nope. Before JJ's knee problems, I wanted to keep JJ over Hanson. Hanson is a good pitcher, no doubt, but I just don't think he's going to last.

Maybe it's about my hopes and expectations, but I just don't consider him a #1 guy. I say that with him having settled in and pitching well tonight, but I just feel like there are still too many times in too many games where he could easily be chased early or have things blow up on him. (I know, nitpicking tonight)

I'm not sure there's a nastier pitcher to watch from the CF camera than Jonny Venters. he throws some sick looking stuff up there.
