Oh Ted Turner, you brought the LULZ.

People think Donald Trump is outrageous, but I can't imagine what it would have been like if 24 hr news and TMZ had been around in the Ted's younger days.

EDIT: hell . . . Now that I think about it, Turner INVENTED the 24 hr news cycle.

One of the neatest pieces of baseball memorabilia I've seen: My wife's Uncle was the delivery boy that got to knock on Dale Murphy's front door in Lawrenceville and hand him the telegram (yes, a telegram) telling him he had won the 1982 NL MVP. He was smart enough to yank the carbon copy out and get Murph to sign it separately. He's got it framed in his office.

Granted I was born in '87 and have no attachment to Murph, but I would have sold that twice over by now.

That's freaking awesome.

Funny to think how different it was then. With no internet, no Twitter, no ESPN, etc., you knew almost nothing about the players. And if, like me, you lived out of the state, you couldn't even read what the beat writers wrote in the newspaper about the team. All you knew about the players is what you saw on the TV broadcasts. I knew Murphy was softspoken, Mormon, and universally considered to be a great and likeable guy...and that's basically it. It's weird to think that I probably already know as much about what kind of person, say, Jason Heyward is than I ever did about Murph.

Even now when I hear him on the TV broadcast occasionally it seems weird to actually hear him talk. He still seems more like a statue to me than a real live human being. Man, I loved that guy though.

Would be such a heartbreaking prop bet if you made it and then Kemp went about 425 feet to right center in the first inning.

I think I know Heyward as well as some of my friends

My ex and I had this "fake" cheating list. You pick five celebs that you can be with, and not count as cheating since they are on your fantasy list (this was just to pass time; I assume other people do this). Anyways, she was/is in love with Heyward, and said one day "I think I'll put Jason on my approved cheating list" and I told her "hell no". I then had to awkardly proceed to tell her Jason is like family, since I see him 140 times a year. Let's just say the look on her face was priceless.

When I was 7 i went into Children's hospital in Chattanooga because I had a bad case of staph in my foot, or something like that....anyway- back then they had people in and out of the hospital all the time. I remember intentionally sleeping through miss america, but you better believe that I was awake and ready when the braves came through. I've got pictures, and even got a pennant signed by the team, and was in the paper. I was too nervous to speak- and somehow murphy, who was may favorite player, didn't sign my pennant....my uncle ran down the hall to catch him before he left and had him sign my cap. I've still got it, almost 25 years later.

This isn't going to be the game Jurrjens gets back on track, I fear.

I don't think there's a better opportunity for him to get back into form than the next start. I don't think the Braves would put him out there if he was not physically sound, so a lot of it is mental at this point. He just needs to work through it, but if it's physical he should not be out there and some tough questions need to be asked to Braves management along the lines of WTF.

He may just not be that good.
