McCarthy didn't go for it on the 1? Fire him for having no balls.

I don't think anyone is really calling for Butch to be fired at all, much less for that one single bad decision. I feel like it's pretty reasonable though that some members of the fanbase are starting to grumble because he keeps choking away leads at home by being so conservative we never quite put games out of reach.

If Dobbs can't beat them with his feet or hit a few passes over the top, we won't score more than 10-14 points. No way we win a game like that.

That's why I don't really buy into the idea that this is a game that we "should" win easily. Unfortunately their strength matches up really well with our glaring weakness. Everyone over in the FF seems to think that we can just playcall our way into having a dynamic offense, and I don't think that's the case at all.

The better question IMO is how excusable it is to still be sitting here in Year 3 with a MAC-quality OL. Dobbs would probably be fine if he just had an extra half-second or two before he had to get rid of the ball.

How dare you question The Best Staff in America.

Seriously though, the OL situation is frustrating as hell. We've made significant strides at just about every other position on the field since Butch got here, but the OL is just about as ineffective as it was the day he took the job.

The O-line is only marginally better than they were all last season. Hell, I'm half convinced the Iowa bowl game was a damn fluke. No doubt in my mind Dobbs would be much more productive behind a true SEC caliber line.

It would take a catastrophic collapse for Jones to lose his job this year, but a loss this weekend is going to turn the volume way up. And I just don't have the stomach for it anymore.

Also Verc, I don't think this weekend is going to be anything close to a cakewalk, but I feel like it's a game UT should win. We came within a point of beating them last year with Worley standing back there like a statue and pretending to run the option. Surely putting Dobbs back there is an upgrade. It'll be a low scoring game, but I think UF is going to have just as rough of a time on offense. I mean, they only managed 14 points against the same UK defense that got flat out shredded by ULL.

Dobbs is an upgrade, sure, but the upshot is still probably going to be that both teams have trouble scoring. Which means it'll probably come down to a couple of plays one way or the other. Maybe we theoretically should have a slight edge, but on the other side is the Swamp and 20 years of history that never seems to go away.

(I'm not trying to make excuses for the staff if/when we lose on Saturday; I just think that the basic flaws of this team aren't mainly playcalling and adjustments like a lot of other UT fans seem to believe.)

Blaming playcalling and/or adjustments tends to be a simpleton criticism imo almost every single time.

I'm actually less confident about this Florida game than I have been since 2010. That Oklahoma game really did a number on me. It killed my excitement level, expectations, and greatly lowered my overall confidence in this staff and Butch Jones. It's bad.

Am already dreading Saturday...such is life as a Vols fan. I just thank God I got to celebrate a national championship in my lifetime.

Agree. I'm actually glad I'm working this Saturday, and save myself the misery leading up to the game. I've already asked to work over so I'll miss the entire game. Life is hard for a negavol

I was way less optimistic than a lot of Vol fans all offseason, and now I seem to be way less pessimistic than most. Obviously getting kicked in the balls by yet another crushing loss sucks, but big picture-wise I don't really feel any different about the program than I did a couple months ago.

He is seriously playing Garcia and Bourn over Hector.

Neither will be on our roster next year after ST

So true. I was talking to my friend's neighbor who goes to school at UT, and he acted like I had lost my damn mind when I told him that I didn't really expect UT to win another NC in my lifetime.

That's not to say I don't think it's possible, but I certainly don't have the "not a matter of if, but when" mindset that many fans have. Looking at it almost 20 years in the rear view mirror, it's astounding just how many things had to break our way just to get the one.

Same here. I guess things are on the way up, but for some reason I just don't feel it yet.
