I think Byrd will break some off in the passing game, Malone will continue to progress, and Williams will break out. We don't even have to hit that many over the top, just be willing to throw them. I don't think dobbs is too too bad of a passer. I think he is too risk averse with the ball. Sometimes you just gotta lay it out there and let it be incomplete or let your guy make a play. Either way, throw it up top so people have to respect it.

This is the best way to put it, IMO.

Every time the team was behind, the passing game would start to perform better because they had to take risks.

I can't find the original post but I think the scariest thing about this season is us going 9-3 and we enter next season still not knowing whether Butch is going to get it done here.. Not saying he'll be on the hot seat but there may be a lot of questions surrounding Butch if we don't dominate this season

That's the crazy thing about UT Fans, if that does happen, there will be a good number of Vol fans that will start the " hot seat" crap. Those fans seem to foget the last few years of Fulmer thru Butch's first year. 9-3 is still a very good year

9-3 is a disappointment with this roster. JMO

I don't think it should put Butch on the hot seat though.

I agree that 9-3 shouldn't put him on the hot seat, but it'll be hard for UT fans not to start questioning whether he can ever actually win the conference if that's what happens this year. It's pretty unlikely he's ever going to field a team with so much talent and experience again. Combine that with several other teams in the East being in a state of transition, and it definitely feels like there isn't a better shot for us in the foreseeable future.

If Jones doesn't win the division then fans are gonna turn on him. That might take 10 wins, it might take 9, but that's what he's got to do. I don't think he's in much danger of getting fired this year, but the Butch Jones era will start circling the drain if he's not in Atlanta in December.

It's going to be a pretty hard sell if he loses the division as an overwhelming favorite this season, then has to turn around in 2017 after Dobbs, Hurd, Kamara, Barnett, Reeves-Maybin, Sutton, et al. leave and start talking about how young they are again.

Think about this. With a meh passing game we were 2 plays from 10-2 and a trip to Atlanta. Butch made a couple dumb coaching decisions but if TKJR doesn't fall on his second pick against OU and Moseley doesn't miss the tackle on Callaway we all praise how quickly Butch turned it around.

I'm not too worried. Shoop's an upgrade. DeBord did fine last year after not calling plays in eight years. Our top three wideouts going into 2015 all had big questions about if they were going to play. The offensive line is a year older. We're more athletic in the secondary.

That goes both ways, of course. We were also roughly two plays away from 6-6, including a gruesome choke job against a horrible Gamecocks team that didn't even have a coach. Imagine the fallout if they'd managed to blow that one too.

I wouldn't describe myself as worried. I just don't seriously anticipate this being a championship-caliber team because there's been no evidence there'll be much of a passing game.
