F you guys. Bruce was the lone bright spot for my time in college. Do I want him back? No. But damn right I'm ok with cheering for him. A BBQ doesn't erase that 2008 Memphis game.

For the love of Christ A COOKOUT IS NOT A BARBECUE! Barbecue is not a party; barbecue is not a grill. BARBECUE IS MEAT, smoked over low heat. I expect my Yankee friends to screw it up, but not Tennesseans.

This is so distracting I can't even argue with you properly about Pearl

 I thought I was the only one with that pet peeve.

Bruce is special in his own way. He's kind of like your first true love in life. Sometimes they get away, but you never fully forget about them.

I don't really have a problem with Bruce Pearl himself. Guys like this are what I have contempt for.

Sometime in the future a Tennessee fan and an Auburn fan will get into an argument where one pulls out a gun and murders the other over which school Bruce loves more. Guaranteed.

The two things that bother me about the Bruce Pearl arguement. See above for the first. The second, it wasn't the cookout, it was that he lied straight up to the NCAA. Hell, the cookout would have been a secondary violation, slap on the wrist, Bruce keeps his job. But why take the easy route and take the secondary violation? Screw it, let's tell them " no, I don't recognize this picture of my own damn house, and no, I don't recognize the woman in the background, even though she's the wife of one of my asst coaches and I introduced them." Bruce was/is a great coach, but his freakin' elevator doesn't seem to hit the top floor when it comes to common sense. It seriously scares me how many apologists he has that think he did nothing wrong and it was just an NCAA conspiracy to bring him down. His crime was being stupid, and guess what? He was guilty!

Sorry for the rant. Great coach, but not the brightest bulb.

It's like the whole fanbase suffers from low self esteem.

+1,000.

"When can WE rush the field at Neyland guys????"

"We are going to lose all of our 'big gets' in recruiting because of a supposed OC hire made by a poster known only for trolling guys."

"If we put 102,000 in the seats for O&W game ESPN will have no choice but to like us"

"(Our said player) is the next Manning, the next Tee Martin, the next Eddie George, the next Eric Berry......"

Etc, etc, etc, etc.

I 100% agree with you, but I will say that there are some legitimate reasons for this. It seems that every good experience we have is quickly followed by a swift kick in the junk.

He's a class act and I genuinely wish him the best of luck at auburn, tennessee basketball will never quite be the same without him.

I just can't understand anything about this statement and how anyone can believe any of this.

There was always a large contingent of UT fans that regarded rooting for Pearl as a messianic experience. You couldn't really talk about basketball with them because if you dared to be critical about any of his coaching choices, they'd jump down your throat like you wanted him fired. When he and the Pump brothers chased after Arizona and Indiana, they refused to believe it. When he got caught by the NCAA, they simultaneously denied he'd done anything wrong and blamed UT for not helping him get away with it.

People think he loves Tennessee as much as they do. And that has made them slightly insane about him. I expect the same dynamic to play out at Auburn too, if he ever has success there, because Auburn is already like a cult family anyway.
