There was always a large contingent of UT fans that regarded rooting for Pearl as a messianic experience. You couldn't really talk about basketball with them because if you dared to be critical about any of his coaching choices, they'd jump down your throat like you wanted him fired. When he and the Pump brothers chased after Arizona and Indiana, they refused to believe it. When he got caught by the NCAA, they simultaneously denied he'd done anything wrong and blamed UT for not helping him get away with it.

People think he loves Tennessee as much as they do. And that has made them slightly insane about him. I expect the same dynamic to play out at Auburn too, if he ever has success there, because Auburn is already like a cult family anyway.

Well put. Those same fans buy into every coach and believe the only possible outcome is success. To even question a coach is to be a "negavol" or a "troll". If you don't buy in 100% to a coach, in their eyes, you are not a true fan.

+1,000.

"When can WE rush the field at Neyland guys????"

"We are going to lose all of our 'big gets' in recruiting because of a supposed OC hire made by a poster known only for trolling guys."

"If we put 102,000 in the seats for O&W game ESPN will have no choice but to like us"

"(Our said player) is the next Manning, the next Tee Martin, the next Eddie George, the next Eric Berry......"

Etc, etc, etc, etc.

Fantastic avi

Is Perry the UT football commit that also plays baseball? Think it was him. I was reading his thread earlier today and it was taling abou his 60 time, and for whatever reason, it reminded me of one of my all-time favorite Braves plays. Anyone else remember when Marquis Grissom stole home plate? For the life of me, I can't remember the year, but I remember watching the game. Gris got a great jump off the bag, and it wasn't a wild pitch or a dropped ball, he just hauled tail and stole home plate. I think that was the first time I'd ever seen anyone steal home live. I'd seen highlights here and there, but never actually seen it happen midgame. I just remember being so freakin' excited. It was awesome.

I miss those days. I miss the days when I felt like the team and the ownership all had the same vision of just winning, and that there was an actual chance of it happenning. Baseball just doesn't seem as magical anymore.
