Well, the Bucs are a QB away from makijg serious noise in the division.

But that'd be a one maybe two year solution

I guess it might make sense for Tampa if they were convinced that neither Winston nor Mariota is worth it. Trade for the old QB, try to be competitive now, and then figure it out later. But you sure as hell have to be right. Trading in the division and then watching the Saints turn the pick into Andrew Luck would be miserable.

These QB-at-the-top-of-the-draft situations are such huge, franchise altering decisions. Glad I don't have to be the one making them.

I'd be goat snake pissed if we traded for DB just to have him for a year or two.

Trading the #1 overall pick for a 36-year-old QB would be stupid unless you think that the rest of your team is so good that it would immediately make you a strong title contender. And even then it might still be stupid.

Not as stupid as drafting and paying someone to suck or be suspended. Brees is a known commodity. Mariota is a question mark and Jameis is a risk.

I'd rather take a risk on Jameis and his potential than to have DB for 1-2 years with our SLAW OLine

By the time Winston is worth a damn, assuming he isn't in prison, he will be paid handsomely, our defense will suck again, or our receivers will be too old

There's give and take

I think this is based on the assumption we wont draft well (which, is a fair assumption given our draft history). Idk man. Scared money don't make money

Honest assessment...I can't imagine Tampa is within a year or two of going to the SB. A trade for Brees just doesn't make sense to me...at least not for them...

Now a team like Arizona, St Louis, maybe KC...

We don't draft well and we don't make good personnel decisions.

Scared money don't make money can just as easily be used to advocate for the trade

Yeah, it just sounded cool in the moment.

I just don't see it man. We both know were not gonna make a title run. Your argument is that we'll get set back with Winston, but if we don't make deep playoff runs, wouldn't that set us back further trading the #1 pick, especially if Jameis gets his head on (which is a challenge in itself)? I just dont see DB worth the first pick in the draft

I don't see it either. He's still good, but he's 36 and he's looked it. When you have a top three pick in the draft, you need to use it to solve a critical position of need for the next 10 years. Turning it into two years of good QB play for a team that's not going to win a title anyway is getting poor value for it.

That said, I almost always hate the idea of drafting a QB that high too -- the bust rate is just way too high. And I don't think Mariota and Winston are anywhere near can't-miss prospects in particular. (Mariota because of the Don't Draft A System QB rule, and Winston because of the Don't Draft The Idiot QB rule.) But of course at some point you have to take a chance on a QB, because the whole enterprise of building an NFL team is pointless until you get one.

So I don't know what the hell I'd do if I were Tampa. Best would be to trade down and then trade a lower pick for Brees, but New Orleans would never do that.

I wouldn't make the trade

But I'd enjoy the two playoffs years a lot more than im going to enjoy continuing to suck
