I got all excited when they cut Garcia because dumping the crappy veteran retread in favor of the young guys was such a non-Braves-like move. Ah ha, I thought. The most traditional, conservative organization in baseball is finally figuring it out. And then it turns out that it was just a salary dump over a lousy million dollars to replace Garcia with a different, possibly even worse crappy veteran retread. I cant believe this loser is going to be starting in Atlanta in a couple of weeks. Gah
Garcia also refused a minor league assignment. Harang hasn't yet refused such, but will probably have that opportunity before the end of April.
Supposedly he refused one in Cleveland. Asked to be released when they told him he wasn't going to make the opening day roster.
I don't doubt that Harang is probably a marginal upgrade over Garcia, but the right move was to dump Garcia and move forward with the kids. Not to replace him with someone equally terrible who has no future.
