Auburn loses to D-II Team

Right, it happens, but it's hardly considered common. I recall App State beating Michigan when they were D2, so it also happens in football. Like I said, 351 D1 basketball teams, how many others have you heard of this year getting beat by a D2 team?

FCS is not D-2; it is a lower subdivision of D-1.

App St was hardly D2 in football. I can provide you more examples of D2 teams that have beat D1 teams in basketball over the years, if you would like? I never said it was common to happen, but its not shocking to happen. D1 teams tinker with their lineups in these exhibition games before regular season starts.

You said it's not uncommon, that means you're saying it's common, can't be both ways...and yes, please list all examples from this season?

It's not common but it happens to even good teams such as Michigan State when they lost to Grand Valley State...It's hardly a barometer for the type of season a team will have. I do enjoy Bruce and Auburn losing....I hope they never win again.

When was that Michigan State loss?

Pearl has had some good recruiting at Auburn, it just seems the players haven't meshed very well. I still believe Pearl is a good coach, I just think it may be more difficult for him to drum up excitement on the plains like he did at Tennessee.

Hoping LMU will add to that D2 list of wins over a D1 tomorrow night at Butler!!!!

No one cares about these games. North Carolina lost one before. St. Johns lost by 32. Syracuse and Miami have lost before. Louisville and Iowa as well. Syracuse lost to a D2 in an exhibition and went 30-5 and the Sweet 16. They are a time to try many different things. Only those outside the sport reads anything into these games. Auburn held out their two best players.

Basically the D1 is looking at them as a scrimmage the D2 as a pre season championship game. Chance to pull a big upset. I know the Splitters are fired up.

Is that game tomorrow night streamed anywhere? I have always been a big LMU fan too. Not as much as you but I have always tried to keep up with the Railsplitters.

Pearl just gave Auburn their first winning season in almost a decade. I'd be slow to judge his team or his abilities.

It's year 4, so this is slow. Given how well he's recruited, if he doesn't make any postseason tournament for his 4th year, I doubt anyone would blame Auburn if they decided to move on.

True but most cases it's still a blowout by the D1 team.

Having said that, I don't think Auburn losing this game is that big of a deal, although with all their offseason stuff it could be a sign things aren't great down there.

I don't think that's been a problem; they've sold out season tickets every year he's been there. Yeah it's a smaller arena but they've gotten as excited as possible at a place like Auburn.

I think you have plenty of examples now. Why just this season? Most teams haven't played yet.

examples from previous 5+ years, if there is 1 or 2 of these examples a year out of 351+ games each year I would hardly consider that "common".

Common to me would be 40+ examples of this a year, and unless I've missed it I don't think there's been nearly that many in any year.

Auburn lost in their exhibition game against D-II Barry 100-95, what in the world happened to Bruce? Starting to think Steve Forbes was the real genius behind those great Vols teams a decade ago.

ETSU is very good team, they are worried that somebody will steal him away.

I think the bigger takeaway is the fact they gave up 100 to a D2 team...if they'd lost 72-70 that would look much better imo.

They hadn't had a winning season in 8 years and he accomplished that last year. His future is not tied to making a tournament this season. Nor is this game one I'd be overly concerned with.

Maybe, maybe not. Considering they money they paid him and his recruiting, I seriously doubt if they don't make at least the NIT this year that they're going to be that happy.

Their fans feel otherwise, especially considering the fact that he now has them in hot water with the NCAA. If they have another disappointing season and can fire him with cause (no buyout), they will likely seriously consider doing so.

Jay Jacobs just announced he's stepping down as AD within the next 6 months, maybe sooner...gotta think Pearl won't last long without him.

Yeah, usually size wins out. If the D2 is hot from 3 they can be a real pest. LMU has a bit of size. 6'9" 6"7" and 6' 10" off the bench and have some fairly big guards. About everyone can hit the three. UTC transfer Odem has great handles and plays tough d.
