Auburn mom blasts Vol baseball fans....

I dont know if it really happened or this is just sour grapes from a mom who wanted badly to see her son beat a team he was a fan of growing up, but Its never acceptable to cheer for an injured player IMO. I'll never forget the loud roar at Legion Field from the bama rednecks when Tony Robinson rolled over with his knee injury. There is absolutely no place for it to happen.

Auburn baseball player’s mom: Tennessee fans behavior ‘classless & down right embarrassing’
Losing sucks.

Yeah, that phrase says it all for me. There is always going to be a classless few at any school, so posting something like this is more a reflection on her than the majority of Vol fans. Also, I’ve NEVER seen any of the staff, which she included in her post, being rude to any fans whatsoever. They’ve always been extremely courteous and respectful.
A number of the ushers and ticket takers are grandparents. The head of security is a pretty nice guy as well. I’m having some doubts about this part of her claim.

This did not happen. You can listen to Auburn Baseball's own broadcast of the game (at Auburn Baseball's facebook page) and nobody was cheering when her son was taken out of the game with an injury. In fact you can hear the crowd give him a round of applause as he leaves the field (at the 42:10 mark).

She's a mother whose son had just overthrown a ball to first base and set in motion Tennessee scoring several runs. Auburn's announcers spend half the inning talking about what a costly mistake it was. Mullins then injured his arm and had to leave the game. His mother was understandably feeling a lot of emotions in the moment but the crowd was not cheering her son's injury.
Seems like she had a ton of family up there to see him pitch and he didn’t get to. So she’s stretching to create some drama.

At all the venues I have ever been at, ushers are some of the nicest and helpful people I’ve ever come across. I remember whenever I was younger at a Braves game and one of them asked if we wanted to move down to some empty seats behind the dugout so we could be closer to the players. One year there was an unruly Vols fan sitting in front of us at Neyland and we had to ask the usher to find security to escort them out of our section.

I have a self imposed (imma jinx) ban from posting during games on VN so I went back and pulled the related comments from the game day thread.... as usual nothing disrespectful from our posters IMHO

I can’t say I am surprised he hurt himself with his mechanics. Hate it for the kid though. I know his sister.

Hope he’s okay.

Great squad for auburn this year - sucks for the kid and the team. Terrible. Health is not guaranteed!!!

threw a pitch and grimmaced, started shaking his arm. Catcher ran out then coaches and trainer. Elbow…can’t be good.

Yep, looked like his hand was numb.

Hope that Mullins is ok. Never like to see a young man get injured.

Man, you hate to see that happen to a kid, regardless of who he’s playing for.
GBO!!

Yeah, he looked very uncomfortable to me. Unfortunate for Mullins.

Appreciate you pulling the comments, Star. 👍🏼👍🏼That's what I love about the VN baseball community (drivebys excluded). Overall, we have not been disrespectful towards players. I also think the majority of our fanbase shows respect.

I am sure someone said something to them. It has happened to us every place we have been. You have to expect it as the visitors. But I did not hear anything outloud toward her son. Any time a kid reaches for his arm after throwing a pitch it is unnerving. I didn't hear anyone cheer that he got hurt. I don't think that most fans understood why after he was pulled the next guy threw almost 15-20 pitches (guessing not precise) but the average fan did not know what was going on or that when a pitcher is hurt the next pitcher gets unlimited warmups.
I will say that the second situation was different. The fact that it took almost 20 minutes for them to decide if he could pitch or not and then left him and he gave up the homerun then they decided he was hurt after throwing one more pitch and even though there were guys in the bullpen warming up they gave the next pitcher injured warmup pitches of about 10-15. There was some booing on the length of time it took to decide and then there was some vocal people that it was decided he was hurt after he gave up the homerun.
I've been on both sides and I get it. It was not a good look for either team. If she is saying the UT coaches questioning the time given is wrong then she does not understand baseball. You should only get a reasonable amount of time to decide if a pitcher is hurt or not. This game is slow enough.

This a thousand times. Especially Preacherman's take on the second injury (hamstring). I know I was really annoyed at how much dithering the Auburn staff did in trying to decide whether to continue with that pitcher or replace him. Ump took too long to demand they decide quickly.

She is a liar! Period.

I was at the game. When Mullins went out there was an obvious and appropriate applause from the Tennessee crowd. PERIOD !!!

Including myself. I stood up and clapped. That's all you get at an opposing teams HOME stadium lady. What did you want us to do? Cry?

The second pitcher went out after about 10 minutes of Auburn coaches standing on the mound and looking at the pitcher trying to figure out if he was too injured to continue. It DID take an unusually long time to make that determination, and there might have been a few fans getting tired of the wait. I, for one, did not hear ONE fan yell anything ugly at the pitcher when he came out.

And AI.com, feel free to print this opposing counter view of the lies you printed from a butt-hurt mom.

Have no idea what, if anything, happened the way she describes it BUT....as a general rule parents view of things when their child is involved can be so skewed it's unbelievable... and the truth is hard to clearly see. We've all witnessed parents acting a fool to the embarrassment and detriment of their child at games and even other events. It is one of the saddest things you can witness because that parent genuinely cannot see their (or the child) fault. Just hope the kid is ok long term.

I don't know if they were sour grapes, but I have a feeling grapes did play a part in her decision to post this mess.

I wasn’t at the game but think fans were upset w the interruption of the game. I’ve never seen a acting pitcher receive warm up pitches but I’m mark an avid baseball spectator. It was a pivotal @ bat for Ortega, so the crowd got a bit emotional during the 5-7 min delay.

Plus many fans still think of flopping with “fake injuries” during football games so…. My $.02.

“Tony Vitello picked up the bat and hurled it toward home plate where Tigers were waiting for their teammates to cross.”

And this from the writer… hurled? Did you even see it? He walked almost to home plate and lightly tossed the bat in the grass on the other side… sheeesh.

Sour grapes from the first word to the last. I hope we see them again and I hope we beat them worse.

They were not booing the player. Its not like he was laying on the ground writhing in pain. They were booing at the length of time it took to make a decision to change pitchers. Actually, I was expecting it to take that long since they had no one warming up. The pitcher who replaced him took 1/2 the normal warm up time which is dangerous. You have to come in throwing heat with the bases loaded.

I was not at the game. Watched all three games on big screen TV. The Auburn Mom is projecting her disappointment of a 17-4 Auburn loss on Tennessee's players and fans. She seems to be saying Tennessee players should not have tried to hit the ball once the game was clearly over. A very odd take. I saw nothing or heard not anything but respect for her son and Auburn's staff and players.

In my opinion, her grievance is so much deeper than Tennessee baseball. If she is a life long Tennessee fan, perhaps her disappointment stems from her son not being offered by Tennessee. I don't know. However, best not to scole your Tennessee neighbors in print.

But, as a counter weight to her criticism of our fans, I offer the following. Auburn player Bobby Pierce, after hitting the game winning home run (in the second game) deliberately over flipped the bat causing it to bounce into the screen in front of our dugout. When Coach Vitello picked it up and "tossed" it back to Auburn's side of the field., Auburn players rushed out of the dugout like rabit dogs. Auburn fans on facebook said Coach Vitello should be in jail for his actions. Another, very odd take.

But the ESPN interview with Bobby Pierce after the game made me sick to my stomach. When asked how it felt to hit the game winning home run with two outs and two strikes Pierce said ( Paraphrased) "Great. Just great. When we came in here, we knew we were a better team than Tennessee. We just had to prove it and that's what I did. Proved it."

I thought, Oh my goodiness, you can't possibly be that tone deft. But he was. I also thought, Sunday's game is going to be real ugly. Thank goodness it was not. As I watched the last four innings of Sunday's game in total amazement, as Auburn's players walked back to the dugout in total defeat, I realized sometime you need fire to put out a fire.

she should be pissed at her coach because he is the jackass that made him throw another pitch. The kud knew he was hurt but still lets make sure it is junked.

I had a Billie BA biker think he was going to jump me yesterday. Was BS, I'm a Biker but was in the wife's Honda Accord. Anyway , he bowed up, squared up, fists up, and I looked him right in eye and said here's what about to happen: I'm going to kick you right in your face and then while you're down I'm going to hammer-fist you straight into a an ambulance ride and then I'm riding your bike back to my place....His eyes got as big as half $$$, his eyes sunk, fists dropped and he said "we're both Vets why are we doing this?"
Same same with these jealous opposing fans...just threaten to kick them in the face and mean it!! Screw that B
