Auburn mom blasts Vol baseball fans....

@preacherman20 we love Vollie (he seems like a selfless teammate, always hustling out to grab the gear when a batter reaches 1st as an example) here on VN and I appreciate your perspective and comments!
Kirby just seems like the consummate teammate and looks like he’s enjoying every second of his experience!

By bouncing around, it keeps you in the game more, mentality and physically. I think its easier to be ready to go when you have been following the game and really involving yourself as much as possible.

Huge factor in misbehavior at college events. Seems like just yesterday that college sports were “alcohol free” except for those bottles that were snuck in. 😀
Donde Plowman: Let’s be good hosts to our visitors and behave above reproach.

Donde to Danny White: That beer is bringing in some serious revenue.

So do you think they have crossed a line that would keep parents from wanting to allow their son to come? Not judging just asking.
As for me and that is all I can speak for. The coaches and players have not crossed a line other than the college sports stuff that I've never approved of with the language and stuff but that is just me. It seems it plays a part in sports at all ages. The coat and cap are just fun things that most teams are doing now. The chest bump was not as bad as most make it out to be and I've never crossed that line but I've umpired with some guys and coached with umpires that baited coaches into doing stuff which is what I think happened. The bat incident was a misbounce by both sides that I don't think was fully intended to go where it went even though I think it was tossed both ways with intent to get close.
I will agree that there is always a fear that it will get out of hand. Other than a brawl I don't know what it would be that make me not want my son to go there or be with those coaches. Every episode to me has been the coaches taking up for their players and that may seem bad from the outside. But as a parent I like it. I sent my son there because I believed this coaching staff would love on him and develop him both as a player and as a man. Part of that is having his back in ALMOST every situation. And in the ones that they cannot have his back publicly that they support him the best they can. Remember in life, some times we have your back in public but chew your butt out in private. I know that has happened a few times in the past 3 years. Not to my son but others.
No, I'm only speaking to what the OP referenced. A mom was (I'll take her at her word) upset by something she heard in the stands after her son was injured. We know from recordings that it wasn't something you could hear from or throughout the stadium. But maybe she heard someone near her talking trash. If there were only two idiots in the stands, but theirs were the words she heard, it's understandable she might conclude that was a fair sampling of Tennessee fandom.

As I said, villains ON the field--yes! Villains OFF the field (or in the stands)--no.
We don't have to lower our standards or trash our values to cheer ARDENTLY WITHOUT APOLOGY for Tennessee.

I would be more concerned about a coach not automatically pulling a pitcher with arm pain

With the physics of pitching, arm pain is rarely improved by more throwing
The weekend before, Butch Thompson threw his setup guy and closer all 3 games against South Carolina….and they weren’t low pitch counts either.

True, but we aren’t in the MLB either. Point is, Butch tends to over use his horses IMO……
That seems blatant to me. The thing is, the kids still have to warm up all 3 games, then pitch a significant number of pitches. It seems like the proverberial management malpractice, at least to me. For the record, my MLB team hasn’t used a closer or setup man on 3 consecutive days that I can ever remember.

People want negative pub for UT right now. They know we’re about to be great for a long time with Tony V.

True that, OT. I sometimes forget that difference, as I am relatively new fan of college baseball. These are young amateurs with a course load to worry about, not grown men professionals.

These youngsters also come up from HS ball with 7 innings. IIRC the summer leagues for HS ball teams were also 7 innings (it's been 10 years since I watched a summer HS-aged team and things may have changed). I believe the aubie kid is a true freshman like Chase Burns.

I used to be pretty apathetic toward Auburn, but I feel like since Bruce went there a lot of Auburn fans have gone out of their way to be AHs toward our fanbase. Maybe that's all in my head but they've become quite insufferable in recent years.

Agree with you for the most part, but she should know better than to assert that the behavior of a few fans sitting within earshot is indicative of all Vol fans. She directed her anger at the entire "TN Baseball fan base". It was the entire "TN Baseball fan base" that she vowed to never forgive. So at best she's holding the entire "TN Baseball fan base" accountable for the actions of a few loudmouths. And that might be understandable if I believed that she's never heard similar things from fans at Auburn and other venues.

I don't disagree, Hacksaw. I've just learned to adjust my expectations.

My work allows (or sometimes requires) me to deal with many mothers of teenage athletes, and I'll just say that there are instincts at work (in otherwise gracious and exceedingly intelligent brains) that just aren't going to be "coolly objective" under every circumstance. And the closer their sons get to permanently leaving home, the more intensely those instincts can express themselves.

So, as a son who would probably not have survived his teen years if not for a mother's inordinate grace, I will try to extend the same.

(How did I do, moms, with that delicately attempted explanation?)

I can't speak for the moms, but I think you're making your point very effectively.

As I was reading your generous response, an ad to purchase flowers for Mothers Day appeared on screen--of course!

We should start a thread for everyone to post about "80% off" coupons and discounts on guy stuff, and stir up some google action on that.
(Too late. I hear Alexa laughing in the other room.)

Good idea about the flower thread. And yeah, I suspect just about any networked electronic device with a microphone could be listening. A few years ago, I would have laughed at anyone who said that.

Every time I see the thread title, this pops into my mind.
