How does a university exceed UT in administrative incompetence ? Who can shoot themselves in both feet at the same time? The Auburn Tigers . They have managed ( or mismanaged ) to put themselves in a box with no less-than-horribly painful exit. Step 1- Auburn defeats #! Bama and # 1 Georgia on consecutive Saturdays at "Jurgen Hair" . In their euphoria . they sign wonderboy Malzahn to a 7 year deal at 7 Mil /year with a 75 % guarantee if he is fired. 2. Since then Wunderkind has lost 7 of 14 games , including the last 2 Sec tilts by something like 82-38 . Not to mention allowing the Vols their first win vs a SEC west team since before the Botch Jones era started. Now they can a. fire Gus and pay him 37 Million USD ( including half by 30 days) b. Keep him as a lame-duck who wont be able to recruit well and suffer thru next year . It is akin to asking would you rather be eaten by an alligator or a grizzly bear. This cock-up makes our fearless leaders look smart. Who would have thought that even possible ?

The buyout will be lowered next year. Barn gets a year to find a replacement, a la what A&M did with Jimbo. Gus gets time to find greener pastures. When he loses to GA, Bama, LSU and A&M, there will be a mutual parting of the ways. Heard GT might be interested though. Might work with Barn on buyout.

Auburn is filled to the brim with the extreme desire to win. I've always admired them for that. They will cut bait before the program death spirals and move onto the next guy. We'd still have Gene Chizik if he'd came in and won a national title here, that is if we'd even been willing to get rid of Tuberville.

I miss the days when a coach was at one university for 10-15-or more yrs. Allowed to stick it out through a down period or two. Had support just because he was “our guy.”

Showing my age, but there was something about that ......stability is often (not always) needed before consistency. JMO

I so detest Auburn ! I hope they take it in the nads for the next century ! If history is any indication though, they will pay to play their way back towards the top in short order.

Just a short time ago, Malzahn was up in the clubhouse sitting at the table with Urban Meyer , Steve Spurrier , and Nick Saban etc being recognized as one of the game's tactical wizards. It's funny how a a few things going the wrong way for a season can change perception so drastically.

It definitely is. That is the normal in high stakes big money college athletics nowadays. A big taste of winning that's followed by a spoonful or more of losing tends to taste like battery acid to big boosters and fans.

How can you destest anyone that has beaten Bama a couple of times in the past 15 years??? AU, LSU and UM should be your favorite teams in the west!!!

"Short order" like next year. That's why they are no threat to dethroning our fair school for unloveable loserness. So sad.

Easily ! Never ever been a fan of Auburn. LSU on the other hand is and always has been my second favorite SEC team and one of my top 5 favorites overall.
