We almost hired Schiano and have a three game skid against Vandy...

Carry on.

Just a short time ago, Malzahn was up in the clubhouse sitting at the table with Urban Meyer , Steve Spurrier , and Nick Saban etc being recognized as one of the game's tactical wizards. It's funny how a a few things going the wrong way for a season can change perception so drastically.
This board can't talk, they change their minds every week. GBO!

Auburn has a group of young quarterbacks to take over for Stidham (Who is only a JR). Maybe if we hire Lindsey we can sway Bo Nix over here, but they still have Willis and Gatewood. They've got some playmakers elsewhere as well.

I think they'll improve greatly next year.

we are still way worse off. they gave their raise/extension to a guy who beat two #1s, went to the SECCG, has been to the title game before.

We gave a raise and extension for going to a bowl game.

Auburn hasn't had the 10 years we had. They would of never hired Botch or Fooley. May have took a flyer on Kiffin or not, he was risky and they probably would of passed. They've won a title in that time. Lost a title in that time. Actually beaten Bubba a couple times. There is just no comparison.

After last year's Schiano debacle and the cluster that followed, it'll be a while before somebody surpasses us again for admin incompetence. What we did last year, as far as I can remember, was beyond the pale. The only thing remotely comparable at a big program that comes to mind is Notre Dame hiring George O'Leary then firing him a couple days later because of lies on his resume.

Gus's buyout is excessive, to say the least, but it wouldn't shock me if they rebound next year and win 10 games. The story of Auburn's program historically is one of inconsistency. If Gus sucks, they'll probably get the money together, bite the bullet, and buy him out. It's incompetence, but not like Tennessee. They've also won a title and played for another within the past 8 years. We've just sucked.

Auburn is filled to the brim with the extreme desire to win. I've always admired them for that. They will cut bait before the program death spirals and move onto the next guy. We'd still have Gene Chizik if he'd came in and won a national title here, that is if we'd even been willing to get rid of Tuberville.
I wouldn't say Tennessee has any less desire to win. And there are more parallels than differences between our programs. They had Tuberville and their '04 season, we had Johnny Majors and the Sugar Vols. We both parted ways with those coaches because we wanted more. They picked up Chizik and we got Fulmer. Both won national championships, both got axed later. Auburn got Malzahn and still isn't thrilled about where they are. We got Kiffin and Dooley and Jones and now Pruitt and still aren't thrilled about where we are. The main difference that I can see is that Auburn's doing the same thing we are, only played at about 2x speed.

I am no analyst of football. To me, this only looks "dumb" if you believe there is some predictable process by which you can win all the time. There may be such a process, I don't know. I think we can agree Tennessee doesn't know either.

We let Fulmer hang around and run the program into the ditch pretty deeply. Auburn, as you say, does things at a much faster pace. Once it's clear their coach is getting passed by others, they grab someone new. Tuberville went 13-0 and was gone when he slipped, Chizik won the title and was fired within 2 years, Gus played in the BCS title game and they're ready to fire him. We let it go too far down under Fulmer for too long and have been paying for it since. Our linemen recruiting had gotten so bad back then, it's set the program back a long time. Kiffin had no linemen that would have returned his second year. Then things compounded when the worst coach ever didn't recruit any OL. Since then, no coach can develop the OL at all.

How can you destest anyone that has beaten Bama a couple of times in the past 15 years??? AU, LSU and UM should be your favorite teams in the west!!!

I confess that I have a soft spot in my đź’“ for the Barn. Somewhat of a brotherhood in hating Alabama. They are such a thorn in the side of toothless nation that I have to give a little love to them.

I think firing Gus would be stupid. Every 3 or 4 years, Auburn has a BIG year.

Gus has 2 wins over Nick. How long is that list?

Auburn is the only other team in the SEC I will pull for in any game. Their fanbase is a lot like ours. Rabid and loyal.
