Auburn Scandal

I find it very telling that school and/or the coach would even deny his claim. Why would they feel like they are in a position to confirm or deny anything that he said about his own recruitment. I could see them saying "news to me" or "not to my knowledge", but to outright refute a statement that they aren't necessarily in a position to know is interesting.

Actually, his name is Cecil Newton and he is from Georgia.

We didn't pay him and we have already been investigated by the NCAA so I doubt anything comes back to us. Not to mention we can just pin it on Kiffin like we did with our recent violations. Either way, I don't believe much of this stuff anyway, but I think Kiffin would have been dumb enough to offer.

Moore isn't saying that he has proof an offer from Tennessee. He says that he's heard a tape of Cecil Newton claiming to have a 200k offer from Tennessee, which he was using as a bargaining chip at MSU.

This is the problem with politics and college football. People getting liquored up and start running their mouths with no facts to support them. Someone should poison the trees in his yard. I mean, really, you have heard the tapes but no one else has.

Reports, rumors surface about Cam Newton's father - NCAA Football - Sporting News

Apparently, the tapes are going to be played on Moore's show two weeks from now. He's claiming he's going to have Bond on to discuss the issue and give some context for what's being said.

I have no idea if this is true or not.

I am interested in how they prove Cam was in the room (i.e., his voice in the background).

Matt Chernoff - 680thefan in Atlanta said that the tapes will be analyzed tomorrow by voice experts.

Moore said that one of the tapes has Cecil Newton asking for money from Mississippi State with Cam in the room at the same time. He also said that the NCAA has a copy of some of the tapes and did encourage Auburn to sit Cam down before the Auburn-Georgia game. If you remember, it was shortly before that game that AU officials quit saying that everyone was innocent and switched to "no comment" as the standard response to everything. He also says that Cecil claimed to have a $200,000 offer from Tennessee but he'd give Mississippi State a $20,000 discount.

Okay. If the NCAA has these tapes and knew of Cam's involvement then they still made the decision to reinstate Cam. Seems as if the NCAA would be implicating themselves here.

Even if Cecil said he had an offer from UT that is no proof that he did - it's negotiating 101. I bet he had no offers anywhere; figured Cam was going to MSU anyway so he thought he'd get some cash out of the deal.

Can UT sue Cecil/Cam if this pans out and they know it's BS? They could be editing or dubbing for all we know. Why so long? Many questions.

What would be the basis of a lawsuit?

Supposedly the tapes will be analyzed by voice experts tomorrow. Who cares if Cecil mentions UT? It proves nothing except that Cecil was trying to make Cam’s buyer move faster and/or pay more. It happens all the time (Buy now or these others will). Doesn’t mean it’s true.

Tennessee will just laugh at both of them.

I'm sure Cecil was using that as leverage in the negotiations. It probably was all BS at the end of the day.

The real question should be, why would Cecil name UT in particular?

Hmmm, maybe something that has not been talked about. Not saying it means anything, but I'm just saying.

Because it was well known Tennessee had shown interest in him and Orgeron's reputation is less than stellar with coaches and the NCAA.
