So why would a team want to play in a conference championship game? It won’t improve their ranking and they won’t get a bye if I understand this scenario correctly. So Penn State could beat Oregon by 20 in the league championship game but Oregon would still be seeded higher?

To be able to claim their conference’s championship. Conference championships should be completely separate from NCAA championships.

What makes the sec a powerhouse this year?

8 teams currently in the Top 25 rankings. Only 1 SEC team does not have a Top 25 win on their record this year. I’d say that’s a pretty solid conference top to bottom.

I've said this from day one. A 10-3 conference champ getting in was always a possibility and here we are.

Wisconsin won the Big 10 in 2012 with an 8-5 record, lost the rose bowl to end the season 8-6.

In 2024, Wisconsin would've been a playoff team.
