He really has a quick wit and great response over and over. He is what we needed to put this train back on the track and headed in right direction again, I'm excited - Proud to say we have finally got a Great coach with a Great personality!!!!

i like the guy but he needs to just stop with the used car salesman stuff. he needs to say things he truly means. Not just fluff to get butts in seats. winning games will do that.

That's just it--he really means the things he says! It's not an act with him, and that's what people are attracted to and why people identify with his optimism.

Because he really believes what he's saying--other people will start to believe and the "loser" mentality from CDD will slowly fade away....Attitude is VERY important! :salute:

I believe in Butch. Its all about a positive mindset. I'm just as guilty as the next guy of being negative on here. But I think its because we all care about our Vols and its frustration. I hope Butch is the guy and I hope we are back sooner than later, so I can start talkin trash to my UGA co workers again instead of laying low. ha-ha GBO!

I like him a lot too. I can't bring myself to get excited just yet, though. I've had too much heartache the past couple of years.

Having a positive attitude and setting goals actually DOES work when you work at it consistently.

Negative minded people don't know that because they've never read and studied it and then put it to work over a long period of time.

I've never met 1 person that has a negative attitude that's successful at anything.

Too many people on here still OVER expect what our Vols can or should do so they're always disappointed and reality evades them.

We're a HORRID football program right now and we have to totally rebuild 1 slow step at a time and it IS going to take several YEARS to work our way back up to competing with the best in the SEC every year like we used to do so just accept that abd become a real Vols fan and just support our coaches and players, cheer on the team on gamedays and try to enjoy the ride back up to the top over the next several years.

That's all we really can do anyway folks.

VFL...GBO!!!

Butch is really winning me over more and more each day. My favorite quote of his from today was this, "My message to the team is this. It's 2013, be a champion." That is a winning attitude, and that's something Tennessee has lacked in the past few years. Butch is confident in himself, and is expecting results right away. That's what you have to do to win in the SEC. You have to sell yourself, and all the history that is Tennessee. I think we have our guy, and I think we'll compete sooner than expected.

I think we should at least give him 4 years, no matter his record. This is our 4th coach in 6 years. Another coaching change would be a death blow almost.

Good coaches find a way to connect with the fans as well as the players. Saban "slips" 4 letter word out at pressers and says things like "we are not here to have fun, winning is fun". He's "salty" and the bammers eat that stuff up because thats what they want...a salty and demanding ball coach (aka Bear). With Jones, the charm seems to be a very positive approach to a very solid work ethic....I like it, too!GBO!

While I agree that winning is the answer, his methods seem to be working on a lot of this fan base.

Don't think he's wired to do that. Very confident in his methods, his program and ability to win.

He has addressed that issue. He nad his staff have said that they will adjust their scheme to the players they have. They will not see what talent they have until spring and fall practices have been completed. Opening game will be something to see.

From what I've read about him, that's just who he is. He reads motivational stuff, writes down motivational ideas his has whenever he has one (even keeps a recorder/notepad on the nightstand), and is very much a cliche using kinda guy. However, I don't think he does it to fluff so much as he believes in the power of positive thinking and picks up any kind of motivational technique he can find that he thinks will motivate himself and his team.

His father was a cop and he has a very blue collar background that influenced him deeply. Cincy fans warned that after a while a lot of the phrases he uses would get annoying because he says them so much and they probably will but I think that's just who is. He's not trying to be a used car salesman, he just loves positive thinking and cliches.

It's just a part of him that we'll have to develop an immunity too. Sort of like those teachers who say certain words a funny way or use certain phrases a lot that we all had to get used to in class (or if you were like me as kid, you learned to imitate their speech and wrote down how many times they said it just to have a little fun in class).

In time, I foresee VolNation having threads on Butchisms that will be pretty funny and hopefully we'll be winning so they'll be in good fun rather than mean-spirited.

But hey we all have our quirks that other people see a lot better than we do.

Be careful telling some of our posters his father was a cop. They run for cover and change their log-in name.

I believe he does mean everything he says, and if he can get the team to believe too, then we will start winning again imo. If you believe you're a champion, then you will play like one, and that will only mean winning! GO CBJ, and GO VOLS!!!!!
