if you're referring to modern liberalism/progressivism vs. classical liberalism then you have a point.

classical liberalism favored the individual quite unlike modern liberalism, which is all about the collective.

I guarantee you that I know exactly what it means. I know the definition of the word, but I also know enough about the word to know when it's used in relation to modern American politics, it has nothing to do with the meaning of the actual word any longer. The same holds true of the liberals and conservatives in all of the Western European countries as well. Liberal defines a different set of political views in each of the different countries. If you understood that better, you would understand that the word today defines a primarily socialist set of political values and has been used in proper context throughout the discussion.

The poor fella is never positive and always, I mean every freakin' post, throws an insult out that gives the word stereotype a bad name.

My guess his family is fairly conservative and drove him nuts so he assumes every one else is like them.

we're angry because our only real choices are between socialism and socialism lite. there are plenty of lefties who are angry as well. Or were until the worldwide Obamagasm that happened last night.

he can't change who we are, but his economic/military/diplomatic policies can damn sure affect us a lot.

I missed the golf question and I'm not angry.

Actually, I've grown socially liberal and am conservative in most other things. I suspect that defines a large segment of our society (at least the taxpaying variety)
