'24 AZ EDGE Elijah Rushing (Oregon commit)

How many, who were sh!tting on Elarbee because of O'Connell, will be here, with bells on, whenever this kid picks Zona?? Over/Under?

I would hope none, this is a completely different situation. O'Connell was an instate TN kid and went to Clemson. Rushing in an Arizona kid. I don't fault Elerbee, especially since we are about to get Satterwhite and Warren. I'll make that trade anyday. Rushing was always going to be a bonus, not someone we really thought we would get. Hope he shocks everyone and picks the Vols but not counting on it.

I mean, there's no reason to blame Elarbee when Ekeler is his primary recruiter and Garner is his secondary recruiter.......

I think he’s talking about how many people will bash Garner and Ekeler when we don’t land Rushing. This is slightly different though. This guy is from the opposite side of the country. O’Connell was an in state kid we let get away

Right. Because kids aren't allowed to make difficult decisions between two programs they like who both did all of the right things when recruiting them... right?

No. UT didn't "let him get away". That is manifestly STUPID. UT pushed as hard as they could for him. Clemson pushed as hard as they could for him. The kid found something he liked a little better at Clemson. If you think UT failed to do something they should have done to get him... then what SPECIFICALLY is it? The answer is absolutely NOTHING. They did their best and he chose someone else.

Some of that is unknown. The bigger question is whether he's a guy that would come in and contribute right away or need a couple of years of development. Some of that is drive but some of it is just how quickly he can adapt to college competition... if he can at all. That last part isn't a negative against him personally. It is a question for every recruit regardless of their rating or evaluation or prospects. Some guys just look great in HS but cannot translate it to college. Then once in a while you have a Jalen Wright who was fairly underwhelming in HS but has turned into a very good college player.
Wright was set for a monster senior year, but Covid happened and they canceled fall football in NC. Expecting someone to contribute immediately on either line of scrimmage in the SEC is always a hard one. There are so many variables to adapt to at the college level beyond being physically ready. Level of competition in high school is not as big of a variable as people think, unless you're an offensive lineman. If everything is good from a physical standpoint, it comes down to mainly two things.
1. Mental toughness. Can you get beat on a play and not let it affect the next play?
2. Are you coachable? Can you quickly learn a playbook and not make the same mistakes twice?
