Now, this is unlikely, but let's say Michigan State gets crushed by OSU to the point that they drop out of the top 16. Does the Rose Bowl pick Alabama?

I think if the Rose Bowl has a chance to pick Alabama, they'd jump at it in a heartbeat. I think EVERY BCS bowl would love to have them.

Bama vs Stanford would be brawn vs brain with brawn. Great game. Not to say bama doesn't have smart football players but I would say Stanford has overall more intelligent players where bama has athletes who are very disciplined. Jmho

Michigan State would have to get beat bad to not go to the Rose Bowl. OR O$U wins ugly and gets jumped, and falls from NCG to Rose, that might put MSU in the Orange, or just leave them out of the BCS altogether.

MSU just needs to beat O$U and keep the guesswork out of it. And it is a very plausible situation.

I've thought about this. Wouldn't Michigan State go to the Rose Bowl regardless? Win: get automatic Rose Bowl bid. Lose: represent B1G in Rose Bowl because OSU won't. I don't think there's a team behind Michigan State that would jump them for it if they lose.

Right. No one in the BigTen would jump them, but if it is ugly, and they fall out of the top 14, then I would think someone like bama would be a replacement.
