Stayed off the Gruden forum for the last few weeks. I was 99% sure the deal was finished and through my sources, they were sure it was done too. I have no idea what happened or why. I have a good idea but without concrete evidence, it is just speculation.

I have no idea if Butch will work out. He definitely doesn't excite me. However, Hart should be fired before the season begins. If anyone thinks this hire helps the program, then counting the game day attendance will be easier than counting the empty seats.

Appreciate the info you brought. I think you and a couple others had genuine information. I'm disappointed in this hire but will support our new staff unless they prove they can't win.

I will say I heard in Saturday, that things died, but with all the other folks I trust saying the opposite, it seemed like an outsider data point.

I feel like doing some digging to find out what EXACTLY went wrong, but at this point, I'm disgusted.

I really am beginning to think Hart was going into this with one hand tied behind his back by Cheek and Martin. We will never field a competitve team with this kind of administrative meddling. I think they have the idea you can't have a competitive football team and high educational standards at the same time.

Thanks for taking it like a man. I heard good stuff as well a few weeks ago. I think we all did.

I knew it was over though last Friday.

I love Tennessee and will be saying proudly I'm a fan until the day I die although some days are frustrating and today is one of them days. We settled for CBJ but I guess we needed someone in office now 2 months from national signing day. Also I guess I need to come to the realization that Tennessee isn't the job it once was but at least it was CBJ's "dream job". So I will use the wait and see approach before I pass any judgement and I feel the rest of you should follow suit.

The Gruden threads were the brightest spot for the past football season for many people. It is unfortunate things did not work out and I for one would like to know how Hart was able to pull this off.

If I misled or misguided anyone I assure you it was not my intentions.

Firstly, I'm sorry for your personal issues. I hope everything is fine.

Secondly, I think this is a classic power struggle. There were boosters who thought they had more influence than they did. And in the end Hart won out. I am far from a Dave Hart fan and do think he and especially Cheek's days are numbered, but Butch Jones is a solid hire. All evidence to this point is that he can win.

As for the Gruden hype/hysteria, this is clearly a case of people wanting to feel more important and believing only the evidence that supported their viewpoint. This includes not only the people who posted the information but also perhaps more importantly those feeding it to them.

I support Butch Jones because he's Tennessee's head coach and he's given me no indication that he can't do the job. That may change but I have to give him a chance to succeed. As for Hart and Cheek, I think the University would be best served with others in those positions.

Keeping my word to not post int he Gruden thread but many got caught up in the web of misinformation that spread to the point of becoming like an urban legend that is repeated so many times it starts to ring true.

I have no ill will toward anyone and always respected you guys and your information. I just rolled with it, the info I heard and received, and didnt stick to it when evidence pointed the other way.

No need for this DTO, your a solid poster.

I will disagree with you on this hire, IF Butch Jones puts together a good staff I think he will do well here.

We have the #4 QB in the nation now interested in Tennessee.

It was not the hire I wanted but I think he will turn us all into believers next season.

This whole thing looks like there are some heavy hitting boosters that have a beef with Dave Hart - and they did everything in their power to turn the fan base against him.

I would say "mission accomplished".

Now let's see if their character assassination was justified or not. Time will tell.
