Butch mentioned that Peyton had called and urged him to go to Colorado. I wondered if it was one of those behind the scenes things, since many wondered why all VOLS would-be coaches were dropping like flies. :p

Seriously, in the beginning I was angry. After, I watched the press conference, I think CBJ might be a good coach for us.

A lot of people thought that about Dooley, too.

Stayed off the Gruden forum for the last few weeks. I was 99% sure the deal was finished and through my sources, they were sure it was done too. I have no idea what happened or why. I have a good idea but without concrete evidence, it is just speculation.

I have no idea if Butch will work out. He definitely doesn't excite me. However, Hart should be fired before the season begins. If anyone thinks this hire helps the program, then counting the game day attendance will be easier than counting the empty seats.

Gruden was never personally contacted by UT. "Feelers" were sent out to his agent, his agent contacted Gruden, Gruden refused an interview. End of story. It went no further than 3 phone calls. Anything else was purely made up.

Firstly, I'm sorry for your personal issues. I hope everything is fine.

Secondly, I think this is a classic power struggle. There were boosters who thought they had more influence than they did. And in the end Hart won out. I am far from a Dave Hart fan and do think he and especially Cheek's days are numbered, but Butch Jones is a solid hire. All evidence to this point is that he can win.

As for the Gruden hype/hysteria, this is clearly a case of people wanting to feel more important and believing only the evidence that supported their viewpoint. This includes not only the people who posted the information but also perhaps more importantly those feeding it to them.

I support Butch Jones because he's Tennessee's head coach and he's given me no indication that he can't do the job. That may change but I have to give him a chance to succeed. As for Hart and Cheek, I think the University would be best served with others in those positions.

Voice of reason among madness. Good post.

Probably. Most of the Gruden rumor mongers on here were FOS.

DTO, gman, et al

I appreciate your input and believe that you were sincere. Obviously things did not turn out as we wanted. As to why, I believe one need look no further than the post of LWS when he stated that "big jim always wins." There is a definite thread of commonality that runs right up to the current future ex coach and I hope that pious sob enjoys every home game with the other 50k fans that will be in Neyland.

This is only my 3rd post here, so you are welcome to take it with a grain of salt.

I lurked forever, but never posted because I didn't want to be seen as a "me, too" member.

I have what I think are 2 independent "sources" (I now hate that word) that are at equal depth within UT football. I'd speak to person A and get one story, then speak to person B and get a totally different story. The reports would sometimes be similar, but that was a rarity. I trust both of these folks...and that they were just relaying a message (albeit an erroneous one).

That leads me to believe that the entire AD was in a constant panic which led to crappy communications. Hart should have had more control over it and he didn't. His leadership is very questionable after this.

I have gathered from both people that Gruden was in play up until the near end. He just wanted too much out of the program with no risk to him. At the very end, his most loyal boosters folded on him. To grant him his wishes would have put the football program at risk.

Like I said, that is what I gathered.
This is the story. Some can believe it or not. It doesn't matter now.

You never knew anything except how to type random, untrue things and place said things on a message board. Hope that was fun for you...

Sargent, this seems plausible. I don't personally know or not, but have been very curious to find out what went down. This makes some sense. Since it's all water under the bridge now -- not trying to convince anyone of anything, just for my own sanity -- I know for a fact that up to Thanksgiving our main team believed he was coming. Hence my belief that something very recently "changed." I have to think either our administration balked in some way, or JG brought some added demands that tipped things too far. Maybe both. So I see some credence to this perhaps?

2 ecred points awarded to you.

Don't think you need to get all bent out of shape on this. You stuck your neck out on something that didn't work out.
Sounds like Gruden really wasn't interested. FWIW, I hope Butch wins 9 games next year just to piss you Grudenites off.

Frankly I'm pissed at you Grudenites. I don't want to hear an apology for bringing info that you thought was good. I want to hear y'all take the blame and apologize for feeding the fire that helped bring this past season to its knees. Apologize for being so negative and complete jackazzes to people trying to keep it positive. We r in the position we r now with another "well let's see how he'll do" coach cause y'all were to blinded by your wet dreams of Gruden to support the Vols this yr. Yall were the ones glad to see us lose to keep the circle jerk over Gruden alive.

Take blame in yalls part for this past seasons issues then you'll be deserving of respect. Until then all y'all are just POSs to me.

Spot on Oskie. They fed BS to each other and the stink cloud grew. I will not question their fandom. 99% of them are true Volfans but they need to question their motive of support. They need to question their own actions against other Vol fans that told them from the beginning that their self imposed charade was nothing but a pipe dream. These so called groodenites hovered over some chunky chick, passing so-called insider info from burrovol and others that had secret e-mails,,,and none of them took the time to realize that what they were doing was embarassing not just themselves but UT, and the state of Tennessee.

Nothing wrong with wanting him as HC. But a few of us tried to tell the foolish throngs that is was never going to happen. Instead they opted to believe secret e-mails and some chunky chick. I'm sure I was put on every groodenite ignore list during the grude 1 thread for telling them it simply was not true. But, kids be kids.

Appreciate the info you brought. Sorry it didn't turn out like we all wanted. I would hope you would share what happened when you can. Hart and Cheek are pos that need to go. We need TN people running things. It's been going down hill since JJ retired IMO.

PLEASE....

Blaming these guys for helping to "bring this past season to its knees" and for being "in the position we r now" is absolutely ridiculous and a bit over dramatic.. Seriously dude, get over yourself.. This site has far to many drama queens and babies... SMDH

If you're looking for cheap entertainment this is the place.. If you're looking for serious info you MIGHT find some in the recruiting forum..

Seems like I remember you being right in the thick of it.... By your last statement looks like you don't remember it that way, or am I mistaken?

Just accept you were wrong and move on.

Wrong in my hope and short lived belief he would come. I NEVER was an "insider" providing information or worse, one those morons that made sh!t up, posted it, got busted and called out for it..

Oh my, did I say to much... :eek:lol:

Most factual statement of this thread lol.

No offense man but you were one of the main perpetuators of the "we're getting Gruden" insiders. Now you are strutting around like you were in the know and the "insiders" were foolish. You as much as anyone fanned the flame in the Griden threads now you are running around with revisionist history. I find it disingenuous and pretty weak. You seem like a great guy but your seemingly high and mighty attitude after the fact is highly annoying.
