Bad Coaching end of game as usual

I just went back and watched the last play again. Harris tried to set a screen for Goins. Tatum, Hopson and Williams were pretty much stationary.

I know ill get flamed but I'd like to see mcbee at point with hopson pearl Harris and Williams on the floor. Give tatum and goins something to think about on the bench. Maybe light a fire under their a$$.

McBee needs to start seeing the game from the bench only.

Yes I just went back and noticed the same thing. They must be as nervous as I am in the last 15 seconds.. I literally shake lol.. I could never play the game.

Yep. If he wanted Hopson and Tatum to do something, the communication clearly wasn't there. It looked like, as you said, a high pick by Harris looking for a possible pick and pop, which is a middle school play. And shockingly, it failed.

At the end of the game....if C. Tatum hits the front end of the 1-&-1 and/or makes even a feeble attempt to stop the FL player running free in the paint, Vols win the game. The players are busting assignments & sleepwalking at the most inopportune times.

If we have any plays, that sounds like all of them, except for the screen part. We don't typically do that.

BP is a great coach but he has to be one of the worst end game coaches of all time. You have to use the time out...

Let me guess...if he calls TO and sets up a play that doesn't work you would say...."Why call a timeout and give the HOME TEAM a chance to set up the defense." Bruce's position is you let the guards win it for you with an assist or score without gives a strategist like Billy time out to set his D.....Not a wrong position, just different...sometimes it works....sometimes it doesn't...We didn't run the play CBP had called....

I have never jumped up out of my seat to yell at the tv screen like I did at the end of that Florida game.

All game long Goins brings the ball up slow; stays well above the circle; and looks around like he's going to make some great pass to a wide open guy. He rarely penetrates or takes the ball to the rim.

At least 3 games I've watched this year, where we had a chance to win or tie at the buzzer, we took long, off balance shots. That is hardly even middle-school.

At the end of a game when you need a point, you take the ball to the rim! You make it or most likely get fouled. A 3 point shot is at best a 40% chance when you are open and there is no game ending pressure. What is it when the game is on the line - maybe 10%.

VOLS - TAKE IT TO THE RIM! Get some players who can penetrate and shoot foul shots.

it doesn't matter if we call a TO or not since both scenarios have led us to the same result all season. You put that on the coaching

and your post seems to imply that CBP is not on the same level as CBD. If he makes the right play call wouldn't the chance for success actually go up after a TO?

I disagree with the last part. With how they were playing Saturday, who would you trust with the last shot? In my opinion, Hopson. If you call a timeout, Billy Donovan is going to make sure his team takes the ball out of Hopson's hands. Then you have very inconsistent players throughout the course of the game taking the last shot. I think our best shot was to go without the TO and have Hopson get the rock. However, it didn't happen and Bruce should've called a timeout.

like you said, we couldn't get the ball to Hopson (or anyone for that matter) and settled for a long, contested 3pt attempt. In my mind a good coach should be able to design a play with 10sec left that gets you a decent look. Unfortunately all season we've failed to do that. How many 3pt shots have we thrown up at the end of games with a chance to win? I just don't think we have the discipline on this team to get it done. I put that on the head man

I have no problem that Pearl didn't initially call a time out. There was plenty of time to call and execute a play without giving Florida the advantage of setting up their defense. Makes sense.

However, when Pearl called a play and it wasn't executed, I have a major problem that he didn't call a TO to try something else when he was sitting on two of them. That makes no sense at all.

I only watched it a couple times but I believe Goins backed it out to almost half court with 7-8sec left. Pearl had to see something wasn't right at that time. Call a TO, settle them down and get a decent look. I just think it was mishandled

I thought it was close to 10 seconds (not sure), but this sums up how I thought it should be handled as well.
