Holly's hit and miss with recruiting this year, coupled with the horrible start to the season is only going to intensify the scrutiny of the national media. That isn't a good thing for the team, for recruiting, or for her. It's already starting.. look at the front page of ESPN women's basketball.....

It can only go two ways now. Holly will figure out how to turn it around get some big wins against the top teams left on the schedule or we'll lose five or six games and the pressure will rise.

If the LadyVols don't play better and the coaching improve they might lose 7-10 games.

I know and I think that would be firing territory if we had any AD but Dave. With this team I hate to think they lose ten games.
Losing over four is underachieving because we were ranked higher than anyone we play except two teams.

I am guessing you did not read the actual story which included passages like these:

Tennessee clearly has much to work on. But is that really surprising? No, not when you consider all the factors. Tennessee lost three seniors who averaged in double figures in scoring last season. This year, the Lady Vols need to get a lot from two players who sat out last year -- Diamond DeShields (transfer) and Mercedes Russell (injury) -- and another, Te'a Cooper, who's a freshman trying to figure out how to be aggressive but stay out of foul trouble
.

Voepel concludes that the LVs have the talent to go far but they need to clean up issues with concentration adn execution and that this game needs to be a wake-up call.

Sorry, it is not the Holly bashing, the LVs are doomed piece you seem to want.

Hart doesn't care about Women's Basketball and i bet Holly will still be the head coach going into the 2019-2020 season.

I understand what is meant from a PR standpoint, but I come from the understanding that the truth being presented is never a bad thing! It come off as "bad press," but it is a fair/accurate article. Taking the TN recruiting failures out, this could serve as a generalized article about every team in the top 25, outside of UConn. No one enjoys unsolicited reality checks, but sometimes a good dose of reality is the only way to grow and improve the situation.

I was looking to find some scores today and was shocked to find that on the ESPN homepage. Shocked not that I'm surprised at the content but in that how quickly Voepel went there.

Meanwhile she needs to do a report on UK. 4th player, Goodin-Rogers leaving. Down to 9 scholarship players.

At the end of the day, I think losing to Texas was a good thing. The team needed a wake-up call. They got it. It's November. It will get much better. Barring injuries, I will not be at all surprised to see this team in the Final Four.

And no, the Voepel piece was not the doom-and-gloom, Tennessee-is-failing piece that so many here hoped it would be. This program is not failing. The coaching staff is not failing and the players are not failing. There are many things to work on, but this team has a lot of new components that have to learn how to work together smoothly. They are working it out. The naysayers are going to look foolish in March.

Of course, Tennessee is the place where "Fire the Coach" is an ongoing mantra from all the sideline "gurus."

I think the last paragraph in the article sums it up nicely:

But Sunday's game should inject some concern and sense of urgency into the Lady Vols about the long haul ahead and how much better they need to become in order to get where they really want to go.

The loss is just one loss, and in itself is not that big of a deal. But if FF or NC is the team goal, then "concern" and an increased "sense of urgency" are legitimate reactions.

I think the recruiting worries are WAY overblown. We've always been able to get good to great players. We have Diamond, Mercedes, Graves - all top 10 players and usually playing like it too.

Players DO and WILL continue to want to play here because we treat players right before, during, and after their playing time here. The atmosphere in Tennessee on game day is second to NO ONE. Despite our recent challenges, we are still always in the hunt for a championship.

Sometimes good players pick other, inferior schools because they are closer to home or the academics of the university are a better fit for them or whatever. Sometimes we may lose a player because that player thinks the other school is better. But, to be honest, I think MOST of the time it's just a matter of feel and fit. When you walk on a university campus, players can tell if it's where they want to be or not. It has nothing to do with random ESPN article titles.

Which is why losing this last game was better than winning it.

Tennessee fans, in their spoiled, entitlement-fueled desire to see "their" team completely decimate the opponent, often cannot (will not) see the big picture. They do not consider the fact that this team lost three senior starters and has infused several new parts into the system; they have to learn to play together, but the "fans" have neither the time nor the patience for any kind of learning curve. They take tidbits from what Holly says in pressers (and admittedly, she is not a great interview, but she doesn't have to be) and embellish it/add to it/speculate about it until they attribute things to her that are completely false (for example, the team never practices offense). At some point, these fans need to get a grip.

This is the team goal. It is every year. HW will not get them to the SEC championship game, much less the final 4. I see at least 10 losses with this team. HW probably is a good person. She's no head coach though. She's a lifetime assistant. She's terrible as head coach. Said this last year as well.

keep grasping at that "Holly doesn't stink as HBC" straw, Ivy. keep hope alive! lol

I'm not grasping at anything. Her teams have won over 80% of the games she's coached. I don't consider that "stinking." But keep grasping at your straws, gule. I'm not sure what they are made of, but they must be important to you.

No, PAT was always able to get great players, Holly doesn't have that long term track record. She got off to a decent start riding Pat's coattails and bringing in some talent but recruiting has fallen off significantly the last couple of classes and doesn't look to be getting better. Her best player is a transfer. She has some other good players who may or may not prove to be great but most have not yet lived up to high school billing. Next year's roster is looking dangerously thin with a roster full of injury-prone players....
