Spoke to a booster at the game and they are saying the Gruden deal fell through because Gruden was asking for total control of football operations and that Hart doesn't want to give it. He also said Hart was going to New York in a few weeks to interview coaching candidates. I hope this guy has no idea what he's talking about because I want Gruden BAD but that's what I was told :(

If this is true and it is found out by the Vol faithful, I would NOT want to be Dave Hart!

Take this with a grain of salt. The whole "gruden wants total control" has been a speculated problem from the get go. Unless the boosters last name was Haslam or Thornton, he knows nothing more than we do.

total control of operations? this isn't pro football. There is no General Manager. This is not accurate and I see why many don't believe these type of reports.

I do know for sure that Gruden wanted certain powers of delegation within the UT athletic department. But never heard of any resistance.

If he wants control, give it to him. If this is true, and it has been reported everywhere for a few days, It doesn't matter who Hart hires. The fans will not be happy knowing Hart blocked our HR hire, but did we really expect anything different? We are doomed to bieng average unless Hart gets a great coach, and I am doubting he will.

Well I certainly hope you are correct and the gentleman I spoke with is wrong. This news was told to quite a few people and that's what concerns me. I realize rumors are flying all over the place. I was also told Hyams reported on his pregame show that Hart was going to New York to interview candidates...can anyone else confirm? I didn't listen to his show in Vol Village..

This sounds like the so-called booster gets his information from the Sports Animal. Also the 2 week thing before looking is a dead giveaway of not knowing what they are taking about. Not saying I know if Gruden is coming, but this guy doesn't either.

Now now he is sworn to secrecy.

Actually, I wasn't sworn to secrecy but I'm also not going to plaster his name on a message board. You can take the information for what it is that's up to you. No matter what anyone says or believes nobody will know for sure until someone is introduced at the podium....which i hope is Gruden.

Someone needs to spell out what total control entails. And before some jackass says "it is exactly what it sounds like," let's get it spelled out in layman's terms. Academic, financial, hiring and firing, etc.

No way Hart will wait two weeks to interview more candidates. Hart is acting now. He's not waiting. OP is wrong.

This "booster" is either FOS, or you just made up a fantastic story. Program control is a non issue
