I'm Uber conservative and don't smoke pot, but this is complete BS. I have friends who have smoked pot since college and never graduated to harder substances. Culture is a gateway. Gang bangers smoke pot and so do hippies and good ole boys. Big difference in how pot is perceived in each of those cultures.

Pot is illegal because:

1 - It is difficult to tax
2 - Its use has been associated with certain "different" or "deviant" groups that are perceived to be a menace to society/the social order (Mexican migrant workers in the early 1900s, hippies in the 1960s)
3- In more contemporary times, big pharma companies that make narcotic painkillers would rather it not be legal so they don't have to compete with it

It is not illegal one bit because of what it does to the body or brain. It's illegal because it is difficult for the government to get their cut and is associated with subcultures outside of the mainstream, although that is changing. And the fact that it is changing is why it is becoming more acceptable.

In the 1950s, if pot was the drug of choice of housewives, men in office buildings, or your neighbor down the street, it would be legal no matter how harmful it was. Perhaps not socially acceptable by everyone (just like alcohol use isn't either), but legal.

If alcohol use was strongly associated with let's say, Satanists, or was difficult to tax (oh, well, moonshine is, that is why it is illegal), it would be illegal.

If these particular ones say that it's more harmful than alcohol, then yeah they dumb. I suppose if they told you santa was real you would believe that as well.

OMG!!! Are you saying SANTA IS NOT REAL??
Well thanks for ruining Christmas!!!

Honestly, to me, if it's weed I have no problem.

If it's performance enhancers (or the like), then that's an issue

Jmo

Well, weed is a performance reducer, so there's that.

Proof you ask?
Well, there's Appy State over the stoned Michigan team for one. I'm sure there's others.

There's more marijuana in the city of Boone NC, than there is in the entire state of Michigan.

Back in the 20's during prohibition, the lumber industry lobbied for Pot to be illegal because most of the paper before then was made from hemp.
