Bama and Possibly UT Holding Up Mizzou to SEC

Exactly.

Parity is a much more important factor than geography. But this shouldn't be a hold up when it comes to adding Missouri. There are many ways to preserve the Bama-UT game. The league just needs to promise both schools that it will happen and then move on.

I hope they do. Without the UT-Bama game, football (for me) would be ruined in a big way. That game describes how Fall Saturdays in the South should be.

Agreed. And it can be worked out. It can even be worked out with Auburn moving to the East.

The Pac 12 split the 4 CA schools into different divisions, but created a schedule that allows all four to play one another every year. The other 8 schools don't have permanent cross-division rivals. Something similar could be done for Alabama and Tennessee in the SEC.

I would imagine that they would want to keep the schools as geographically correct as possible. aTm and Mizzou would be in the west and the eastern most west schools would move to the east.

Ive never heard your take on this but it's been talked about some on the board by others in a few threads. Ive got many Bama friends in Huntsville and the majority like the Tennessee rivalry better than the barn. If you had to choose, who would it be? Not saying it's gonna come down to pick or choose, but which rivalry could you not do without?

The only benefit geogrphical alignment adds is that it's a bit easier for fans to remember which teams are in which divisions. I still can't tell you who's in the ACC Coastal or the Big Ten Legends.

I'd say competitive balance and rivalry preservation will be 1a and 1b on the list of priorities when they get around to it...with geography running a distant 3rd.

Placing Mizzou in the East accomplishes the first two priorities and it doesn't completely ruin the geographical aspect of it.

Mizzou will be placed into the SEC East and thus, nothing will upset the rivalries in place.

1. Is it confirmed that the story is true, or is it a rumor that Bama is trying to prevent Missouri from getting in?
2. If it's true, do we actually know the other schools opposed to it?

I would prefer to keep Tennessee. I think the Auburn rivalry has become toxic and it would be better for everyone if it was limited to being played twice every five or six years. The Bama-Tennessee rivalry has decided more SEC championships than any other pairing, so I consider it the most important matchup in the history of the league.

What I'm hearing is that both Bama and Tennessee have withheld their approval until the league can guarantee that they will still play every year. The other schools I've heard are dissenting are UGA and Ole Miss, though I have no idea what their beefs are.

+1 It would be the end of many traditions. Our fish fry would be gone and that would suck.

Is anyone abstaining from this vote or are all the teams involved

UGA is probably not keen on the idea of Auburn moving over and forcing them to pick up Texas A&M or Missouri as a cross divisional to replace them.

I certainly hope so. Someone needs to stand for maintaining tradition.

Screw Mizzou. Add Florida State to the East and call it a day. I suspect that adding FSU would boost game attendance and TV viewers/revenues more than adding Mizzou would. The state of Florida has a population of over 14M. FSU is solid in FB, Basketball and Baseball and a great fit in terms of their sports tradition & fan support, academics and geography. And, adding FSU doesn't cause the scheduling & geography/distance issues that adding Mizzou does.

Missouri Fan here. Why dont we just get placed in the East? I realize some of the locations are not the closest to Columbia but it seems like the most simple fix to everybody's concerns about league balance and rivalry protection.

the simplest fix is for the conference to add a 9th game, which i think they will. if we're going to add teams outside of the southeast the least we can do is place them in the most geographically appropriate division. i know its all about tv money and not the fans who actually travel, but mizzou in the east would suck for fans wanting to travel either way.

Yep. We get the grills going as well and have a ton of people gather. Chicken, steaks, hotdogs, hamburgers, beer, etc. and have one hell of a time. It's the one game a year where there is actually a crowd involved when i watch from home. We bring out the horseshoes and cornhole as well.

we could do the ultimately dumb thing regionally wise what the Big 10 did but was setup to make sure rivalries survive. Make a Champions and Powerhouses divisions. One division. Have Alabama, Auburn, Georgia, Tennessee, S. Carolina, Kentucky, Vanderbilt. The othe division LSU, Texas A&M, Missouri, Arkansas, Florida, Ole Miss and Mississippi ST. Again on surface the Big 10s Leaders and Legends sounds weird but was brilliant in that could maneuver rivalries easier. I for one feel FL and GAs formerly known as cocktail party could survive as cross divisions. I could care less to lose Florida as a regular rival. We didnt play them year in year out till last conference alignment in 92. We had long gaps between meetings. Whatever makes competitive BALANCE in each division is what I am for not one side overloaded.

They need to move the weakest team in the West to the East, i.e. Miss. State.
The east is tougher then the west, esp after adding weaker teams like Missouri and A&M to the West.

Well that's what we are hoping for...It's just not the SEC without Tennessee vs Alabama.
