All depends on condition. Values on Krag rifles are all over the place. 30-40 krag wouldn’t be an especially easy cartridge to find right now unless you’re a stocked reloader. The krags do have the slickest action of any bolt action I’ve ever messed around with, but it’s yet another caliber to stock. I probably would’ve walked away too.@C1500

I’m sure I’m forgetting several old gun fans.
I was in my favorite hole in the wall shop today. The owner texts me when stuff I like wanders in. Anyway I was holding a Springfield 1898 today. It was in excellent condition. Consignment gun and owner was asking 825$. I’ve bought a lot of stuff lately and was hesitant to spend the money. 30 minutes after I left I got a text that it was sold.
Did I make a mistake?

I think I would have had to walk away this time. Even though I have that ammo, its getting harder to come by. I know guns are going high, but I may have had to say no to $825 right now. That's like 40 9MM's.
Looks like it was a low price just skimming some asking prices online, assuming it was marked U.S. Other than than, I have no idea.@C1500

I posted before I saw your estimate. I think I was just looking at auction prices on military issue stuff in better than average condition. It was pretty but to me that’s a 400-650$ gun.
And I like you have a nice collection and there are very few things I don’t have that are on the list of “wants” and this is one of them. I use the gut feel method. If my gut is saying don’t while my heart is saying buy then I walk.
It’s interesting that in all this time I’ve also been unable to acquire the M1 Garand. I just have not found the right one for me.
When the cmp south store in Anniston Alabama reopens, you really should take a drive and acquire your M1 Garand. It was pretty but to me that’s a 400-650$ gun.

Yes. Especially if it was the Krag–Jørgensen carbine.@C1500

That's crazy this place had these as rare. And a $5000 to $9000 price tag.
The actual carbine from the factory are very rare. The problem is there were tons converted under contract and telling the difference isn’t easy. That's crazy this place had these as rare. And a $5000 to $9000 price tag.

The only reloads I shoot that are not mine come from North Georgia Reloaders.Update on the .43 Epy. I'm taking it to a gun smith to get the barrel checked to see if it had a rebore done. The ammo fits good but either 1. the gun needs work or 2. the reloads are done wrong or 3. its had a rebore.
I broke my rule of only shooting reloads that I done myself and instantly regretted it on the 6th round.
